My first week! (Read 986 times)

I'm with John on this. That first year is tough and the main thing is making comfortable progress. Races are just measuring sticks at that point. If you slowly and steadily add miles you'll crush your previous time just running a race every 3 months. But going from 5 miles a week to a regular 20 miles a week could take you all year if you want to do it comfortably and without injuries. And really during that first year races are opportunities to get hurt and/or sore which can set back your progress. They do serve as reminders to force you to keep making progress though. I've used several strategies to deal with shins. I hope this spring things continue to work better once I get back onto those hard roads. Good luck to ya.
