Sorry if a stupid question, but what exactly is a TEMPO? (Read 1514 times)

The Floor Walker

This is a great thread. I'm glad people are discussing what a Tempo Run actually is. I think there are a lot of different definitions of a Tempo Run within running community and makes things very confusing for people entering the sport. The most simple definition that I use is from Jack Daniel's: "Daniels stresses that the effort associated with a tempo run should be 'comfortably hard' —one that could be maintained for an hour in a race." One of the best articles I've read on this subject is from the Running Times linked here.

    I've got a fever...

Good definition, and good article. Whenever I see Coach Daniels cited, makes me want to change my name to Jim Beam or Johnny Walker. Tongue

On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.
