blood circulation problems (Read 723 times)

    hello,

I went to visit the Dr. because i have been feeling something weird (like a tickling) on my lower legs, also sometimes the weird was turning painful. Anyways, he mentioned that i had acummulated lactic acid, has any one ever had this issue before? What did you do?  He also said that, i seemed to to have blood circulation issues, and that made my muscles to expand in order get more oxygen, because they were not getting enough. He also said that the fact that my job was a bit too stressing and iam pretty much stressed all the time, i was having a hard time getting my muscles to recover. All that aligned with the fact that i barely eat beef he said it was causing part of the problem, because of the lack of protein. He gave me Piroxicam pills, a 7days treatment to help inflammation and moved stuff and massaged with a little machine around my legs, back, feet and neck. In 10 days iam supposed to go back with some blood tests he wants to check.

Any one with a similar story?

    Thanks Smile

Was this an actual doctor who had gone to medical school?  and told you that you had 'lactic acid accumulation' and gave you an rx for an NSAID?  Because I'm not a doctor, but think that sounds completely wacky.

the dr. is actually a chiropractor, i went there because a friend that had a bad problem with his knee due to and old injury had very good experience.

Iam not sure if i missunderstood all the reasons that he said but the true is that he stated that i seemed to be starting to have bad circulation issues and he saw some sort of a preliminar / starting point of varices. He said that i was too stressed, and he noticed that when he check my neck, and he ask me about how often i ate beef, and he recommended to start getting beef at least 3 times a week. He was worried also about my weight and the lack of fat, i have something like 12-14% fat and my weight is around 52-54 kg, and iam 1.6 meters tall. He also recommended to sleep better and try to work less, normally i get a couple of days off like every month and i dont sleep more than 5-6 hrs per night.

Now iam making and effort on eating well, sleeping at least 7 hours and not working all the time after i leave the office. I  think iam shocked, when i go back i will ask on more questions because now everything is confusing. ....

          Laura:

Mama is right; you don't get lactic acid build-up.  Over the years (decades), I've come across very good chiropractors, some not-so-good.  Some of them are really really good and perhaps they may even know something "science" hadn't quite figured out yet (more of the Eastern philosophy perhaps...???).  But in general, it may be appropriate to think; if you want your blood checked, maybe chiropractor is not the right person to go to (I'm sure you've heard of recent issue between Japan and China.  Apparently, some idiot in Japan started fire protesting the way Chinese people had been behaving in front of Russian Embassy!!  So don't be like this guy!! ;o)).

If your initial issue is isolated to your legs, or one of the legs, it may very well be the alignment issue and competent chiropractor can work on it for you.  But if it is in fact caused by stress and blood chemistry imbalance, take his advice and go see a general doctor and have your blood checked there first.  For a healthy woman, 12-14% fat is nothing to be alarmed about; maybe a tad low end but not an abnormal figure.

I'd pay closer attention to your morning heart rate; check your HR every morning upon waking and keep a chart.  If you see an abnormal spike--like more than 10% increase--, I'd take it easy.  I don't know your sleeping habit but, ideally, you'll want 8.25 hours of sleep a night.  But even if you can't get that number, I'm a strong believer that the hours you sleep BEFORE midnight have double-value.  In other words, if you can only get 6-hours of sleep per night, it's better to get those 6 hours from, say, 10PM to 4AM than 2AM to 8AM.  But unless you're working double-shift every day, I highly doubt you cannot manage to get 8 hours of sleep unless you're watching too much TV.  Plus, I don't know your eating habit; but, as I'm sure you're well aware, beef is not the only protein source.  Iron is another matter but I'd be a bit skeptical to make sure none of his family member or close friends are in beef business!! ;o)

COULD possibly be sciatica, COULD be a whole host of other things.  Please go to a real doctor.  Because some of the things it could be might be serious and aren't going to be fixed by eating beef and getting massages. And some things can be harmed by chiropractic treatment.

Going to a chiropractor with an old, diagnosed injury that traditional medicine couldn't help doesn't make it the go to place for all medical mysteries.

Hey, wise woman!!  I was going to say sciatica but not enough information but, yes, it definitely COULD be sciatica.  I'm actually battling a case of sciatica but, yet, a weird sensation, more "uncomfortable" than "pain" though it certainly COULD be very painful too.  Been icing my butt for the last 2 months now...haven't gotten frost-bite like I did last time I got sciatica!  I don't eat a lot of beef--maybe a couple of times a month.  Maybe I should eat more steak!! ;o)

ok!!! thank you guys for making me realize that i need to do something different!! I also just read on a website what you were saying, that lactic acid doest not accummulate for days.

Now what kind of doctor should it be? Iam thinking just a general doctor and have him do a better diagnosis?

                regards!

I would start with your general practitioner.  If they think there is a problem that they cannot handle, they should be able to refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Since i dont have a general practicioner, last day i posted, i decided to go to the one my friend has always visited since she was a little girl, she said it was a good doctor. He looked at my leg and said i had a blood circulation problem, did not even explain, i had to ask in order to get a better explanation, and he only told me that it was because of my age, that with time stuff stops working and i could do nothing about it. i asked specifically about running and he said it would help to walk or to run. Also he recommended not to stay sitting all day long, but to try to stand up and walk around and to start taking pills called Hidrosmina 200 mg, which is a Phlebotonic.

Last night i was taking care of my feet and i realized one of them seemed to be bigger than the other, then i looked again and confirmed. Thus, i remembered that i have been having issues with new shoes lately, because they wouldnt fit me. i thought it was because one of them is slightly longer than the other, but both shoes wouldnt fit, so i was thinking maybe i have to wear a bigger size, but that did not help much, i did not worry much about that and just got comfortable shoes. I did a short research about the swollen feet and found out that it could be related to blood pressure/circulation. There are other possible causes but they dont really apply to me, like overweight, birth control pills, prenancy. Weird thing is that the left foot is swollen a bit more, and the right is almost normal, but the right leg is the one with the tickling feeling. Also since yesterday evening i started to feel a bit of pain on my left anke.

Iam starting to get frustrated. Today i called the office and told my bosses i needed time to take care of myself. I got the blood tests the previous doctor asked to see what he has to say about that and about the swollen/pain stuff is happning now, the appointment is tomorrow evening.

In the other hand, I finally decided to get the pulmonary CT angiography, a pulmonologist that i visited on December 2011 recommended me to get done in order to discard one of the possibilities for a white spot that appeared on my right lung on an X-Ray on April 2011. I never did the test because it was not going to help to get a final diagnosis, only discard something else, no doctor could tell me what it was on 2011. Being so busy  i really ignored and forgot that there is something nobody knows what it is on one of my lungs. Tomorrow afternoon ill go and visit the doctor with the tests results. All i know, is last time i was told i had some sort of deformation, it did not seem to be cancer and the spirometry and the electrocardiogram results were ok.

Iam worried everything is related and nobody has a clue of what the problem is up to now. Iam planning to ask all this stuff to the pulmonologist.  Any one with a story/knowledge to share?
