speakin of chickens.....found a bloody rooster that got hit by a car.  still alive, poor thing. brought it home and........called animal control.

Did the animal control guy thank you for finding his dinnah?

I was running on college's campus and laying infront of one of the dorms was a "Plan B" box lol..

I just shook my head.. & said I wonder what Plan A was....

I wonder what Plan A was....

          Not to need Plan B.

          The process is the goal.

Men heap together the mistakes of their lives, and create a monster they call Destiny.

Not knowing Plan A is generally what prompts the OMG drugstore trip for Plan B.  (Mr H's is better)

Not weird, except its location. Yesterday there was a dead deer on the side of the road. Of course, this doesn't sound weird except that the speed limit was suppose to be 25mph or something. Obviously, someone was driving too fast.

25mph will most certainly kill a deer, especially if a leg is broken.  I'll bet 15-20mph could be fatal, too.

My point was more that at 25mph you should be easily able to avoid the deer.

People running get hit by deer - sometimes no matter how fast you're going it's unavoidable.

Yup.  A spooked deer that shoots into the road from the woods isn't always avoidable.

I've had a couple "oh shit" moments with deer skittering by me on a trail run.

                      "Oh shit" was almost literal.

Bwahahahahahaha!!!!  I had one HIT my car on the interstate.  I was not even in gear and was rolling at maybe 10mph (was near the back of a line of cars that saw a herd coming across a field--we all saw the deer and traffic slowed to a crawl to allow the dozen or so deer to cross).  Sucker abruptly darted back by my car, jumped over my hood, and nicked his/her rear hoof on my windshield.  Good thing I was driving a tiny Escort...had I been in anything larger and that long-legged bovine would have landed ON my hood.  My heart was in my throat.

This was right around Thanksgiving, so during hunting season.  Deer get particularly erratic when folks start heading into the woods and firing at them.

In college I often rode my mtn bike at the Petersburg National Battlefield park in VA which is absolutely infested with deer. Every ride seemed to have an "oh shit" moment.

A couple weeks ago I had a "holy shit" moment with a deer about a mile from my front door. You see, I thought we didn't have deer so close to Boston until I turned a corner and found myself 20 feet from a nice sized buck. Of course, it skittishly darted across the street upon seeing me running towards it.

                            Oh roo roooo!

The dead bird thing is a bummer, especially the owl...I like to run in the early AMs and I just love it when I can hear an owl or owls out there in the darkness....

My post is kind of a "bummer, dead thing" post also.  The other day it was cold but sunny out.  I ran down a stretch of lightly traveled road and encountered a rather fine dark brown mousie sitting on the asphalt, presumably warming his little mouse body on the road heated by the sun.  He seemed rather relaxed b/c I got pretty close to him before he skittered quickly away.  About 10 minutes later, I passed that spot again on the return trip and to my sadness, Mr. Fine Dark Brown Mousie was now smashed on the road!  Technically, I don't know for SURE that it's him, could have been some other dark brown mousie, but either way, kind of weird that I would just happen to see him immediately before and after his demise....

That's the sort of thing that might cause one to gang aft agley.
