Love your bottled water? (Read 1091 times)

an amazing likeness

It's just simple that glassware sitting on a shelf is going to have more germs than a hermetic sealed environment.

What is about germs (I assume you mean bacteria) that is bad ?   Ever considered what percentage of all the cells that make you are actually you?

Acceptable at a dance, invaluable in a shipwreck.

        Good Bad & The Monkey

We have to do what we can to minimize contact with them.

There are several problems with this approach -

          1. Most germs in the world are nonpathogenic (i.e., they cannot cause disease in humans)

          2. Many germs in the world are beneficial (i.e., human physiology depends on them)

          3. Most pathogenic germs require certain environments that are not common to the glassware shelf

Attempting to isolate oneself from germs (i.e., microorgansms) can cause harm and with certain clear exceptions will not help prevent disease.  The certain exceptions include, but are not limited to, using condoms while having sex and washing hands while providing healthcare services.  The exceptions do not include avoiding clean glassware.

And almost none of those germs are actually pathogenic. Most of them, in fact, are helpful.

Agreed -- there are germs everywhere.  We have to do what we can to minimize contact with them.

                        i sacrificed the gift

Look, it doesnt matter what percentage of germs are already in your body, whether there are some germs that are actually helpful, or whatever.

The fact of the matter is, you wouldn't shit in a bucket, and set it out in the sun for a week, and then come back and eat it.  But that is exactly what you are doing when you are drinking water out of a reuseable container.

Of course we cannot avoid all germs, and we wouldn't even want to.  But when we know that we are touching our mouth with something which is basically a haven for fecal coliforms, the only thing that a rational person would do is not do it.
