How many miles/week were you averaging over last 3 months or so when you completed your first 50 miler? (Read 141 times)

My only 50 miler was run this past fall.  The course was run on 99.9% roads, so I basically did all of my training leading up the race on roads as well.   Mileage was anywhere from about 55-75 miles per week leading up to the race.

Surprisingly to me, my legs didn't get all that beat up during the actual race, despite all of the roads, and quite a few hills in Door County, WI.  That being said, my ankles were more sore afterwards at the post race party than they are after any Marathon I've ever run.    However, the next day the soreness in the ankles had faded, and I really wasn't any more sore than I typically am after a marathon, which again, was a pleasant surprise.

That is encouraging. Thanks for your feedback.

Its interesting how this discussion is going. I wanted to know how much people train before finishing their first 50 miler and now we are talking about roads vs trails.

      I like to be 60-80 mpw before a 50.

      Sigh, I remember those days.
