Cummins Falls Marathon (Read 84 times)

PleasantRidge

Warm&fuzzy

Have any of familiar with this race?  I've seen the racemap, elevation profile, and I'm familiar with the area. I know it's a hilly bitch, but is it really that bad?

I'm mulling over the idea running it next February.  It would be my first 26.2.  While this isn't  a first- timers dream,  the logistics for me are nice.  It's about  about a 30 min drive from my house, the elevation gain isn't really as bad as my weekly LRs., and it's nearly guaranteed to be in the 50s or cooler.  If I decide to run a different race, it means I am going to have to drive 80 miles+.  There's not anything close to me besides a crazy marathon in a parking lot in the middle of summer, or a midnight race in Livingston -  in the middle of summer.

I'm not looking to run a BQ anywhere I go.  I expect to be out there 4+ hrs.  I'd love to be faster, but my primary goal will be to run as hard as I can while finishing strong ( no deathmarch at the end=strong).

So, opinions please.  While I'm going to do what I'm going to do, if you have any insight or opinion I'd read it.

I've run the full and the half.  It's a very difficult course with a couple hills that are not runnable by the vast majority of the entrants.  Last year the course was covered with ice and snow and treacherous..

That said, it's a terrific local event with a fun staging area and post-race food.

PS: I checked your log . Do the 50 miler! Your mileage is higher than my was for the Pistol 100. Your long run is 18 so 50 miles might be a bit much. http://www.trailrunevents.com/ul/schedule-50k.asp

Run until the trail runs out.

Thanks for the info and links.

It's pretty interesting, but I'm not fully committed to running a marathon just yet. Although, by January I expect to have a few at least 22+ milers in my log.
