2018 Sub-3. No rules. Run. (Read 792 times)

Laura

Weatherboy- Thanks! Weather looking about same at this point and mentally just preparing for that. 88-90% humidity, possible storms around the halfway mark. At this point I'd actually prefer it just rain!

Fin- Thanks, CC really did help me focus but get some turnover in. Ran with my friend for the first 3.25 ish and then she told me to go the last 1/4 mile...I ran the last 1/4 in like 4:30-5:00 pace just to blow off steam from holding back LOL. Being around the race atmosphere was good though and fun- though hard not to race!

Jmac- Good luck and kick ass at CC! I'm sure NYC CC is even worse with the crowds than here in Rochester. we had about 8k runners I think- and of course a good amount of people who seeded themselves VERY incorrectly. But was still a fun time, my friend and I ran 23:00. Wasn't bad for a workout and non-race!

Mikkey- Thanks! Weather not cooperating a ton, but I'll adjust and at least I know Buffalo handles the heat very well- they are a well run race, and always very prepared with extra water/sprinklers/sponges/etc.

Thanks all for the support in training and prep for this weekend! I'm not ruling out sub-3 but right now planning on starting around 7:00 pace for at least the first few due to the humidity of 90%. If I'm tolerating the humidity better then I'll pick it up- I'd rather miss by a little bit than miss by blowing up by not adjusting for the day. My main goal is to eat as many people up as I can in the second half, smart strong race regardless of the time. Might as well race this thing, I'd like to crack top 5. I'm bib number 25 (Under Laura Anderson), there is an app for tracking and I assume tracking on the website as well. At this point I'm actually hoping it rains/storms (possible around half point based on current forecast)...I've got some history of gritting those less than ideal conditions takes the pressure off the time and allows me to focus on destroying as much of the field as I can.

Lela - Good luck!  That humidity doesn't sound good, so super smart to ease up on the starting pace.

JMac- Good to see you back! Your running is looking great. And July 1? Damn. I guess that means I'll have to start soon after.

I've been keeping things really low key, and then this week I just kind of stopped--I've only run Tuesday so far.  But I think I'll be back at it soon.  The main thing that was killing my motivation was just my general tightness.  The tightness started a couple of months before Boston, and hadn't gotten any better. If anything, it was worse after Boston, despite the little break and the lower mileage.  I'd been stretching a ton, but that didn't do much. I finally went to the chiro this week, and it turns out things had gotten so tight, that my left leg was about an inch shorter than my right. I guess the tightness and imbalance was compounding itself (this probably played a role in my Boston performance, if I had to guess).

I've since had another session, and plan to get a few more over the next few weeks. Am hoping to get things somewhat back to normal, then keep up the stretching so I don't work myself back in to this hole.

In addition to this, I was hit with a nasty stomach bug that was passed to me by one of my kids (it hit him for 12hrs and me for 3+ days). I've felt week and dehydrated, which kept me from running. The rest combined with the treatments have my legs feeling great though!  I hope to do a 5k a week from tomorrow, but it's likely to be in the upper 70s and near 100% humidity.  It's still a super fast course, so hopefully I can put up a decent time.

      Upcoming races: Boston

Lela - Focus on destroying the field. Great attitude!

Andres - Sorry to hear about the tightness issues. Did you stop the strength training completely this year? Having seen and got the views of two PTs this year (1 private and 1 free on the NHS) I will never sacrifice gym work for extra running mileage again. I’ve added more exercises/stretching to my routine which has definitely helped my fitness. Marky Mark is big in the gym, but he doesn’t do much running...and look at his PRs!

Swim: great week there again.  Good luck with the increased mileage.

Got the mileage up a bit this week and had my first true LR (well over 13) since Boston in the middle of a tropical downpour courtesy of Alberto.  No real workouts for me yet, but I did have a few miles worth of at least uptempo pace in many of my runs, paced a workout for a few friends on Wed, and threw in a bunch of strides throughout the week..

Lela - that is phenomenal, finished so strong. Well done. Pretty funny that Strava's 1st comment is  'Laura accomplished her 40mi weekly running goal.'

Mikkey, re: 'Running a 35min 10k and getting passed by 10 people seems hard to believe unless it was a huge race! '

it is a fairly small race series with fewer than 500 runners but I just checked the results and I came 29th and I think was overtaken by 11 folk. All the local fast chaps are out for these and it's been won in sub 30 before!

                        Good to see you Jmac.

my week - hard work:  600's on Tuesday (1:48-1:59), 3k lunchtime race on friday (9:53), 10k PB on Sunday (35:03)

Side note- the guy that won the 3k (in 8:20) was doing his 4th rep of the 3k course! what an annoyingly talented dick.

                        RIP Milkman

Some real good work going on in here.

Lela - Great race (Mikkey good job tracking as always) and an amazing finish. Can't wait to hear the race report.

Andres - That is crazy that tightness can be that bad.

Finbad - Super impressive 10K, but that is unbelievable that you you couldn't crack the top 5% with that time!

Me - Not much to report. I was in a very hilly part of the country this weekend and my hips took a beating I wasn't expecting, so my race this week is going to be hit or miss. I'm okay not PRing now, but still gonna give it a good. We'll see how this soreness feels over the next few days.

Lela: Wow, what a race! Perfectly executed. Congrats on the win and the PR!  Not many runners can say they have won a marathon; you are in elite company!

Finbad: Congrats on the 3k and 10k races; those are smoking fast times.

Weather: Strong training as always. Are you targeting a fall marathon? Sorry if you already wrote about this, I'm a bit behind here.

Mikkey: Are you fully healed up now? What's next on your racing agenda?

JMac: Nice to have you back and with a healthy foot!

Swim: Great training you've been putting in. What are you thinking for your mile race?  It's amazing what you are doing, let alone that it is at 7000+ feet!

Andres: I'm glad the chiro treatments are helping and that your legs are feeling good. You have plenty of time till NYC, so now is not a bad time to have to sort something like that out.

I've been lazy about posting here lately. I ran easy for the month or so post-marathon, with a lingering calf strain that finally seems to be back to normal. I'm starting to gradually put some quality back in my weeks. I'm travelling to Orleans, France, for a conference next week and hopefully some nice scenic running, and after that will get serious about a training cycle for my fall marathon.

my week. Quite stiff after last Saturday's 10k race but got into a bit more racing this week. First ever track race with a 3k on Friday night (9:47), it was tricky since there were lots of fast youngsters who move about loads and had to stay focused to not trip up. There was a pace maker who was ticking out 72s laps but I knew that was too much for me and just let him go. I'll do this again for sure, fun. Saturday was a countryside 10k that is 90% farm tracks, roasting hot, came 2nd and won actual money! £30. Beer festival afterwards was very welcome. No racing this week.
