I'm giving serious consideration to registering for the half marathon. Never been to North Dakota. Do you live there? Is the half marathon course really flat? What is Lefse???? Any suggestions for accommodation's that are nice but reasonable? Near the Fargodome and with a hot tub??? DH and I would like to spend a couple of days seeing the area...any suggestions? Thanks, wbertha

Yes, I live in Fargo. Yes it's flat. Lefse is a very thin Norwegian potato pancake. People like to roll them up with butter and cinnamon sugar. I think the hotels right near the dome are getting full. Homewood Suites, Candlewood Suites, and Days Inn. I think the Days Inn still has some smoking rooms available. There are lots of other hotels around the city and parking at the race start should not be too much of a problem. If you want to take a shuttle to the start they have one from the West Acres shopping mall. Two hotels are very close to that - Ramada and Holiday Inn. No idea about the hot tubs, sorry.

Thanks for the info. Anyone else considering Fargo???? wbertha
I ran it last year and set my PR there. Would love to go back, but have decided to run Grandma's again since Fargo conflicts with my sons' soccer schedule. Good organization for a relatively new race (3rd year?) and trust me it's flat. I think the only "hills" were a freeway underpass and the crown on the bridge between Fargo & Moorhead. The race starts and ends at the FargoDome which is nice since you can stay inside to stretch and relax pre-race in the event that the weather is chilly. Plan to run in the wind since it's pretty windy there. Overall I'll be back once my Saturday's free up from the kids' activities.

It's VERY FLAT. It tends to be windy, but is pretty sheltered. The picture in my profile is from that race, and I'm pushing the wind a bit. I ran the half last year, am running the half again, but want to run the full next year. My only gripe is towards the end the course goes on the bike path and it got really crowded. It was just a training run for me, and I wanted to pass but couldn't. If their numbers keep growing they'll have to change the course. There are more people in the half than the full, so maybe it is not as big of an issue for the full. It's easy to drive to the dome, plenty of parking. Don't worry about getting a hotel close to the dome. They tend to have very nice posters. Lots of post-race food. That wind makes for a bad hair day

I love point #1 Big grin, but wonder why being flat/fast/certified matters. Of course, I may be biased.

Bugs, Just curious but what was your time last year? Looking at your log, you are way faster than me. Also, how big a factor was the wind? Thanks, Wbertha

wbertha, My time was 1:55, but I ran it as a training for Grandmas marathon, I ran a 20 the week before and needed to run a 20 the weekend after, so I held back the first 5 miles. I only felt the wind about 2 miles of the 13.1 because the course is pretty sheltered.

Shocked WOW!!! you are fast. Thanks for the info. Got an email today verifying my registration. Now if the weather would just cooperate so that I could do more of my training outside. However, I really shouldn't complain as I do have access to a very nice gym. wbertha

wbertha, Thanks, I don't consider myself fast, but how many people do? I'm running less miles this year so I'm not sure what my time will be. It will be a fun race for sure. I'm planning on the full 2009 and can't wait.
