Damn, I could have had free lodging...I was prolific! You can take the girl outta Wisconsin, but you can't take the WI outta the girl.... Tongue Hmmm...I'm all for extended breastfeeding, but in Western society we have ample nutritious food. Anything much beyond 2 or 3 just seems odd. I think that mom and those girls have more than just the extreme extended breastfeeding going on. Gotta wonder if they are socially inept. They seem more than a little "off." k

i'm on the fence with this one....very much a proponent of breastfeeding, but in those first few crazy days when we were all trying to find our footing, the samples were definitely a lifesaver. Much better than realizing after attempting a 2am feeding that it isn't going to work, and now the hunt is on to find a 24hr store nearby that carries formula. Some moms just don't want to feed their child that way though (one of my friends was not able to do it), and by removing all traces of formula references could send a message of "you're not doing a good job in mothering your baby"....what new momma wants even more criticism like that? Sad I do think though, after seeing what our friend Kellie went through, that powdered formulas should just be verboten, in gift bags and on store shelves. Maybe if the bags just has the liquid (which iirc is safer than the powders), along with 24hr hotlines to a lactation specialist, staffed with real people willing to sit and talk things out with a the harried mom.... The formula companies though do play dirty pool in getting those samples into the hands of every woman with a child in their womb. Evil grin

Yes. I don't think any parent would give their newborn that crap if they knew it wasn't sterile and could lead meningitis. People still don't believe me when I bring that up...until I show them the CDC findings. That should be made VERY public and the cans should have warning labels. k
