qualifying times for the NYC marathon - half and full times (Read 3188 times)

not bad for mile 25

The original linky is expired.  Here is the current one.  Qualifying is getting still more stringent.  I see nothing about minutes plus :59.

New York never gave the 59 second cushion. Also, remember its age on the day you race the qualifying race, not your age on the day of the New York Marathon.

Just run the qualifying time. There. Done. Evil grin I never knew NY had a qualifying time for guaranteed entry. I smell a goal! Shaking fist .... DAMM YOU ALL TO H-E-doublehockeysticks for bringing this to my attention.

I have to brag here.  I posted this over three years ago and have since, last year actually, run the Open qualifying time.  Bang - Done - Wow.

MTA:  'quoted' text is mine, not JakeKnight's (though I miss JK's humor on the forum).

Tougher than Boston? Guess the new mantra will be NYCQ instead of BQ.

They didn't officially have a 59 second cushon but they accepted me based on qualifying time for the 2010 race based on a 1:23:21 half even though the official cut-off was 1:23:00.  I think they must do it on a case by case basis so if you're in the 59 second grey area you should apply and see what happens.

As long as there is a lottery available for the NYC Marathon I think that BQ will stay the mantra rather than NYCQ...the qulifying times to skip the lottery have been tighter than the BQ at least for a few years already.

Thanks for the info!  I ran a 1:23:20 this year so I was hoping to get in for 2012.  It was part of a 7 day race series, so I feel I could run under 1:23:00, but there aren't any good options for that in Michigan before January 31.  I'll give it a shot and even if they don't accept it, at least I'll have a chance at the lottery.

Thank you for taking the time to read my signature!

I had a look at your training leading up to the 1:23.  So, do you log all your runs or was this your training?

I didn't really start logging my training anywhere until December 2009 so all I have in here from before that is race results (I only have about 1/2 of my runs from 2010 in here)...I can't remember what my training was exactly back then but here's a general outline:

                  Sunday: 6-12 miles, hilly trails.

                  Monday: Rest

Tuesday: Track (doing a clinic with Coach Mike Toomey http://toomeysports.net/)

Wednesday: Tempo (either Danvers5k or Lynn Woods http://danvers5k.com/  http://www.lwrun.org/)

                  Thursday: 3-7 miles road, slow

                  Friday: Rest

                  Saturday: Long Run

                    Ah, thanks.

2:45 for men 18-39?  Wow.  I have to be over 70 to run this race.  That's terribly sad.

I think it is really cool.

I think those 1/2M times are considerably softer than the marathon times.     At least the 1/2M time is more aggressive than 1/2M time x 2 + 10minutes.

Well I'm 1:03 shy of the new half time, and 0:41 shy of the marathon time. So it's a decent challenge for me either way.

On performaces in the last year or so I'm 23 mins outside the new marathon time and 4 mins outside the new HM time. On the old times I'd be 1 min inside the HM time and 11 mins outside the marathon time.  So I'd agree that the HM times seem softer.
