Hyperextended Knee - please help! (Read 628 times)

No I hyperextended my knee 2-3 weeks ago while playing in a local soccer league -I iced it immediately for 15 minutes, and then played a few rotations. I was able to continue my half marathon training and weekly soccer games for about a week, maybe 1 1/2 weeks - then last Monday morning I woke up after Sunday nights game, and my knee was HURTING - couldn't run Tuesday morning, called the doc and set a Friday appt. and didn't run the rest of the week. He found a small cartilage tear - put me on electro-stim, acupuncture, and massage 3 times per week. Walked 1 1/2 miles yesterday, tried to run a little, but quickly stopped after about 1/10 of a mile. I am guessing I'll miss 2-3 weeks of training. I have 8 weeks until my FIRST half-marathon. Is it realistic to think that I can rehab this knee, and get back into training in time to run the Mini? All I want to do is FINISH!
Thankfully I don't have experience to speak from. If you are just looking to finish it's probably a possibility, but if I were you I would want an unconditional endorsement from a specialist before trying it. Any kind of tear should be taken seriously, I would definitely err on the side of caution. If you rehab it properly, there will always be other opportunities. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.

Big grin WOOOHOOOO!!!! It's not a tear!!! Howver, it was a nice hyperextension - I've been doing my regular treatments, and just tried to do a little trotting today - I ran/walked two miles, about 0.75 of it running. Knee feels pretty good, but after being "off" for 2-3 weeks, I feel pretty weak overall... Does anyone have any recommendations for getting ready for a 13.1 "fast"... 7 weeks?
