Hot Weather Complainer
Steve - ok, I'll stop being an ass. This time of the year it's much better to have warm weather as people travel around to be with their families. My mom's family is gathering and we're going to do a lot of outdoorsy stuff, including a massive BBQ. You guys are having a weird summer, though I guess it makes sense given the latitude you're at.
I didn't think you were being an ass! Couldn't agree more that Christmas is much better in warm weather...although when I was living in London they showed premier league highlights of all seasons for the whole day so I was fine staying inside.

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR: THRONE ABDICATION
Well folks, I'm off to Asia for 2 weeks, so it's time to start the most important discussion of the year: who will lead the 2020 thread? Here is something to think of for everyone: I set a PR in every distance this year, so clearly this position leads to that. In fact, I believe Mark also set a PR in every distance in 2018. If that isn't definitive proof of the power of the leadership position, I don't know what is.
As leader, I get first pick in nomination. In my mind, it's clear: SteveChCh gets my vote. He's dedicated, humorous, and a Kiwi, which clearly is dominating this thread. Steve - are you ready to set some PRs?
I am ready to submit to our new overlord!

I think it's been about 6 months since I was here.... but after 1 year, 1 month, and 20 days with no running (except for the occasional jog across a crosswalk or to catch a train), my doctor has cleared me for some very easy running. Couch to 5k program here I come!

This really sounds like a "be careful what you wish for" moment. Before the election is complete I should disclose that any power given to me will result in compulsory New Zealand references, particularly from those in the USA. Oh, and I deleted all the emails and scrubbed my server.
Welcome back Rune, can't wait to see some injury free miles logged!
3 months til Masters
It doesn't matter steve. Emails are in a cloud. It is 2019. Get with the times.

Kimba - that's a pretty tough workout in race week. I'd more expect to see something like 200m sprints to be honest. 800's are tough especially 4 days out from a race.
JMac - yes, correct, I did PR at every distance in 2018 except FM (which I did not run). I hope this trend works out for our next overlord too. Enjoy your trip (where in Asia are you going, presumably not the entire continent?).
Rune - HOORAY!!!!!! Welcome back!!!!!
NEW OVERLORD - I vote for Steve. Looking forward to weather complaining and mandatory use of the metric system. Anyone who comes out in the wind, rain and near-freezing temps to cheer for a couple of randoms he met on the internet is certainly crazy enough to rule over this rabble.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
Well, I'm planning a 10km before the next half and the only other 10km I did was when I was sick so PRs are possible. Before the voting is official I should note I'm on holiday (yes holiday, not vacation - just a small preview of how power will corrupt me) in Australia from Xmas Day until January 2. So there won't be a lot of posting but that may be a good thing as it will be hot.
Steve - I suggest you start the thread early (maybe 24th) so we can start arguing amongst ourselves in your absence. Given JMac will be away I'd say you can be reasonably confident he won't try and start a revolt in your absence.
I was thread master 2016, which is my half PR year.
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
2023 PRs (hope to beat in 2024): 5km 20:34, 10km 41:37, half 1:32:32, full 3:21:05
2024 PRs: 5km 20:25
Keen Glad to see you prepping for your next attempt looking forward to what you can actually do. You have put in a lot of miles and hard work with a sub maximal effort you should be good on a shorter cycle.
Jmac Enjoy the trip where at in Asia are you going? Business or Pleasure?
I'll Vote for Steve too
Welcome Back Rune! Glad you have been release to start running again!

Rune - those are great news. It's been too long!
me - so me and my wife wanted to race in Italy in February. MY LORD THE BUREAUCRAZY TO BE ABLE TO RACE THERE.
What's wrong with Italy!!!!!!!
I've been contacting people non stop via email, facebook, I even put my rusty Italian skills to use while trying to call someone (they hang up on me).
Good LORD!
@Marco - They're asking for a spirography, an ECG and a urine test. There's nowhere in Brazil that does that spirography thing. They only do spirometry. I've now sent messages to runcard.com (the runners ID that enables you to race in Italy), the italian federation, a sports clinic in Bologna. I'm now patiently waiting for their response.
By the way the local clinics have no idea what a spirography is.
Rune - great to see you! Welcome back. We've had a bunch of people on here recently coming back from injury, so there's some good advice out there about how to do it correctly.
Steve - looks like you are the winner. I'm ready for the constant weather complaining. The fact that you've lived and traveled to so many places gives you a good insight into what is bad weather, so you seem like the perfect ruler.
Start the thread up before you leave!
Flavio - yeah, Italians never struck me as...well organized. One of the reasons I love Japan and am going again. It's the pinnacle of society.

Great to hear. I'm sure we're all looking forward to you getting back out there. Keep in mind that the Lady Gaga rule is still in effect!

Scrubbed it with what, a cloth? (Sorry, couldn't help myself).
Flavio - It's absolutely crazy! I can't imagine not being able to just sign up for a race even the day of/day before and toe the line so long as it wasn't sold out. I think I needed less paperwork to buy my house, and I certainly didn't need a urine test for that...
I have heard that it's not uncommon for there to be tea and/or wine at aid stations in Italy.
JMac be all like:
Just kidding, buddy. Japan is on my list of places to go for several reasons. Not least among them are ramen and sushi.
