I'd like to be doing ChCh next year but with a holiday for 3-4 weeks finishing 2-3 weeks before the race I may struggle.
Here’s another rule for 2019: If the race is in your handle, you have to run it.
5K: 17:51 (5/18) | 10K: 36:21 (9/18) | HM: 1:20:39 (5/17) | FM: 2:46:17 (11/18)
Next Race: NYC Half (3/17/19)
Goal Race: Boston (4/15/19)
Cheers guys I just pulled the trigger on a 2nd hand 235 for $200 NZ $138 US off a guy who bought it in may but got given another for his birthday.
If you are fit enough then a 10k race a couple of weeks before a half is a good thing and can make half pace feel easier.

You know what the TKP is in Cuba? Consistently 160. If you run in that, you’ll know why we are always a) bitching and moaning in the US and b) will realize why the 130 rule is in place!
I will have to talk to the rules committee regarding the conflicting calf injury / handle rule. My guess is they will compromise and say you can volunteer at the event.

Not exactly amazing but life has been a little more under control, and managed 4 runs last week. Hopefully 5 this week.

2019 aims: Unlike 2017 & 2018, be consistent. So get 40+ weeks of 40+ miles incl. two quality sessions (3 weeks achieved so far).

Haha, yeah that's why I will run (and complain) but not train for a race...all very very easy running, possibly hungover.
I major in hungover runs on weekends. It's amazing how much better you feel running than just sitting around the house. It SUCKS to get out there, but you feel so much better afterwards.
I try to keep them to a minimum but it's a bit harder at this time of year. My main obstacle on a hungover run is dryness...there is the occasional hangover when a run just isn't an option but generally it improves the day a lot. I had one when I was feeling great for the first half, laughing and joking with myself, singing to my music...then the second half turned to hell. Turns out, if you're still drunk it's much more fun*.

I quite happily skipped my easy run this morning. DD1 and DD2 have been sick this week, resulting in none of us getting much sleep. My alarm went off and I realized that I had been getting some high quality sleep since the last time I was up with one of the girls (~midnight) and just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get some more sleep. I can easily rationalize this by saying I'm helping prep my body for my tempo run tomorrow!

I've upped my weekly mileage to 45 miles last week and trying to keep the same this week. Today my body launched a full rebellion that would make the French proud. It was like I couldn't move much with tightness on the left glutes, hamstring, calves and full on fasciitis on the left foot. So I took the day off. Tomorrow is another day.
Jmac/Steve - I'm protected from hangovers by my gastritis My stomach gets upset after a couple of beers.
Mark - You race a lot, but recover fast, so it should be alright.

JMac: Are you referring to yourself in the third person as the Rules Committee? That would actually be quite cool... creating the false illusion of some sort of democratic / due process as opposed to just the dictatorial rulings of the thread overlord.
Watson - saw you had logged some runs on Strava and good you are getting back into it. If you are lining up a winter race, you have plenty of time.
Steve - that TKP scenario looks as bad as we were potentially having to consider in Bali where we almost went on holiday this year. At least you know the rum in Cuba is legit and not laced with methanol.
Keen - still no idea how you manage with 3 kids. I'm struggling today after our almost-2-year old packed an epic protest at bedtime last night that Flavio's left side would be proud of, it carried on in various forms for several hours, and then she got up early as well. The mildly amusing thing about it is that while my wife was away for 10 days, she went to bed perfectly and slept through every single night.
Flavio - maybe a drink will help relax everything? Haha.

Any advice for a rainy race day?

Temperature plus wind makes a world of difference of how to dress for a rainy marathon. So let us know that and we can help.
