Mikkey - Thanks, I'm mostly researching races right now, this one would be a worst case scenario in case I can't find anything else as it seems far to go for a 5k. It seems quite hard to find races where you can run a serious time, most are fun races.

Chillin in the clubhouse bar all Sub-3 marathoners hang out in when they become members. Days Inn breakfast bar.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Heads up that this is THE only week in the year where you MIGHT run more km/miles than commander keen. Seize the moment!
Last year I seized the moment, and managed to outrun him by 200m, by going out on Sunday evening and creating a Strava activity that was 500m long 🤡

He's already running today. I'm not even going to try. I worried about him having a sense of "what now" after finally getting that monkey off his back, but not with this guy!
Hot Weather Complainer
I think I can take him this week. Out of interest I had a look at his yearly mileage as I approach a new yearly record. Yep, 50% higher than mine.
Running at 5am after getting a goal he's been chasing for years...am I the only one who would be battling an epic hangover, while struggling to walk?

I'm definitely struggling to walk! Even the slight downhill to a restaurant for breakfast this morning had me wanting to turn around and walk backwards.
There's a bunch to comment on, but for a quick update I'm pretty darn thrilled with how the race went - this has been a long time coming.
Thank you, everyone, for all the support. It means a lot to me.
Cal - Great job at CIM, that's incredibly impressive given your mileage since that last (still quite recent) marathon.

His “what now” is going to be interesting. Part of his 2023 will be a NYC qualifier and he could get it with a half.
keen enjoy the next month off and the random happy feelings you get when you think of being a sub-3 marathoner finally. How are those quads today?
keen's race has me so jacked up that I already signed up for 2023 CIM.
Mmmm Bop
Where are you staying exactly? I don’t think you’ll get much better than that as nearly all 5k races also include 10k/half distance nowadays otherwise the organisers will be out of pocket. The runthrough team have a good reputation, I’ve only run one of their races that I can think of and can’t fault them.
I’ve never paid to race a 5k and that’s mainly because the UK is spoilt with so many Parkruns and there are some fast ones in London! All the Parkruns I’ve run have been properly measured and legit distance. It’s nothing like NZ
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
About to drive to work, sorry NZ police, I'll be (safely) checking my phone
Amusingly, I got a letter from the police in the mail yesterday.
Another driver had dobbed me in for using my phone while driving.
Because the police only know the registered owner of the vehicle, and not the person driving it at that time, there's not anything more that they can do other than send the registered owner a letter.
Different if you get busted by the cops though, of course.

Wow, that sounds like the sort of person who was dobbing in people for not wearing a mask or talking to their neighbours a year ago. At least you only got a letter which will fit nicely in the rubbish...
... and that was exactly where it went.
