Calf soreness (Read 677 times)

At about a third of a mile into yesterdays run my right upper calf got sore. I had the same problem at about mile 2 in a 5k in Sept. Any ideas why or what I can do about it?

To paraphrase an old poster: Today is the first day of the rest of your training. It doesn’t matter where you started or how far you’ve come. Today is the day. Your training didn’t start 6 weeks ago. Your training started the last time you hit the road. John “the Penguin” Bingham Life is not tried, it is merely survived if you're standing outside the fire

No idea why. But I've heard you can use ice. I use The Stick or I just massage my calf.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

My calves (and achilles) tighten up sometimes when I take some time off. Sometimes as little as one day off will lead to pain in my calves about a mile into my next run. If your soreness is simply a matter the muscles tightening up, then you can probably help yourself by stretching your calves on days that you don't run.
