Does it get easier? (Read 749 times)

My legs are killing me

I've spent the last four months getting ready for the NYC Marathon. As I expected, it's a lot of work but I'm wondering does training get easier the second time around? This is the first time I've built up so many miles and with that base I'm figuring it should be easier the next time.

      Yes.
        Yes.
I agree. I think it gets a quite a bit easier the second time around.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

              Thank you Overlord. Sir.
Absolutely!!!!!!!!! I found the first time I trained I sturggled with keeping my mind in the game and I was also fighting several injuries. This time around has been 100% easier. I KNOW I can do the miles. I KNOW how to run them so I don't overtrain. And most important, I know what to expect such as being tired, what to eat, when/how to stretch or use my foam roller, what is normal and what is not.
Finished my first marathon 1-13-2008 in 6:03:37 at P.F. Chang's in Phoenix. PR in San Antonio RnR 5:45:58!!!!!! on 11-16-08 The only thing that has ever made any difference in my running is running. Goal: Break 2:30 in the HM this year Jay Benson Tri (place in Athena category) 5-10-09

Absolutely. Until you start throwing in stuff like wanting a 20 minute PR. Tongue But the miles are still loads easier. First marathon I would come home from a long run and sleep and be a slug all day. Now I come home and take my kids out to the park or the zoo.

Which reminds me - I need a 20 minute PR by next spring. Do you have a book or a pamphlet or something that describes your training philosophy? Or maybe just a pill I can take?

You probably need to build yourself a muscle fitness factory...

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Run more. Mostly easy. Sometimes hard. Or maybe Viagra - I hear that worked for Clemens
