Sub 1:30 Half Marathon in 2019 (Read 641 times)

RIP Milkman

My half marathon is also sold out this weekend. The field also looks strong. The men's division has the silver medalist at the 5K distance in the Olympics, another four-time Olympian, and the 2018 USATF marathon champ.

The women's division also looks strong with...the current world record holder at the half.

If I'm feeling good, I may try to hang with them. I believe I can make it about 1200 meters, at which point I will lie down in a ditch in the fetal position while sucking air at a furious pace. This will only make me stronger, as I hear embracing the suck is key to success.

I am planning to start as nothing happened (the full stop was less than 10 days) with the program, checking on speed and listening to the body. I am 7-8 weeks to the race (full marathon, 5th of may, Belfast), and I hope I didn't do too much damage with this stop.

Plenty of time to get back on track!

Btw, I’ll be going back to Belfast from 1st - 7th May to see the folks...so I’ll be up for a run if you fancy it. 👍

Marco - The fact that you did get some miles in really helps during that break; it's much better to have gotten those easy miles compared to having missed everything.

Mark - I think it's pretty cool that they actual publish lists like that - and even more so that you have enough running talent around to actually justify it.

JMac - Solid plan for race day execution. I like it.

Flavio - Agreed. It's odd how just being familiar with Steve and knowing he's from the area affects my perception there.

Steve - hope you’re ok. Tragic stuff and I guess we were probably a bit naive to think something like this would never happen in little old NZ.

Thanks all - my work is in between the 2 main crime scenes.  City was in lock down most of the afternoon and rumours were a bit out of hand.  I can't believe it.  After what this city has been through in the last decade, for some piece of sh!t to come from Australia and do this makes me angry beyond belief.

I was planning on running Hagley Park today, and will if it it's open but I suspect there will be no go zones.

Steve - Sadly, we've become numb to these things in the US. Hope you guys come together as a community, that was one of few positives that come out of something like this.

                              5K: 16:37 (11/20)  |  10K: 34:49 (10/19)  |  HM: 1:14:57 (5/22)  |  FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)

JMac - Christchurch is pretty tight-knit after the earthquake there a few years ago... in some ways I think that actually makes this even more shocking, because they are used to looking after each other down there.

Steve - glad you're OK.  I figured it was unlikely you were in the mosque for lunchtime prayers but by the sounds of it there was some collateral damage to pedestrians outside as well.

Keen - they didn't really publish a list per se for Maraetai, just opened up the live results page early which has a list of everyone entered.  I wouldn't say we are particularly deep for talent but this will be one of the larger races in Auckland, and being out East it has attracted quite a few runners from the Pakuranga club (which is one of the stronger ones in Auckland) that probably couldn't be bothered making the journey to races north of the Harbour Bridge.

Fun fact - the very first race I ever ran aside from school events was actually out at Maraetai (my grandparents used to live out there).  I was probably 10 or 11 and 'ran' is probably an overstatement because my dad basically dragged me around the Beachlands-Maraetai fun run (10km I think).  I'm not sure there's any photos of that day but it's kind of funny looking back now.
