Hi, I just recently finished my first marathon. I wrote an article about it for those who might be interested.

His link was screwy. I was suspicious and ignored the post, but today I investigated. Here's the correct link:

"I started to fast." I thought he meant he didn't eat.

Heh. Well, that would also be a mistake.

No, the 11th mistake would be signing up for the next marathon. Just sayin'.

                Mmmm Bop

In my first marathon I ended up with a bloody nipple because one of the safety pins from the bib was rubbing against it the entire race.

That was a terrible and painful n00b mistake.

                  5k - 17:53 (4/19)   10k - 37:53 (11/18)   Half - 1:23:18 (4/19)   Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)

It really sounds like the OP didn't get a whole lot right! Wow good that he is keeping it up though. Better luck next time!

I only made 4 mistakes - not enough training, not fuelling properly, (before and after) not sleeping well and signing up to another one.

Hoping to do better this time around...

I only made one mistake, pooping six times.

But maybe that was six mistakes.

Fixing the first will negate the next two mistakes.  The fourth, some folks spend a lifetime trying to fix.  Good luck!

                              Runs with the pack

I should write an article. "I've run six marathons with no issues". But I guess that would be terribly boring. I've never found the training to be tricky. I always write my own training guides with knowledge from books I've read plus tons of articles here, in magazines and on the web. The events have always gone as planned, hitting near my expected finish time, no issues with water or fueling. Of course, every marathon has been a great challenge but at the same time if you do your homework, follow your training, they are pretty straight forward affairs. My only issue is I always feel too strong at the start, so I go out too fast, but hey, that's "my style".

I think my experience is pretty typical.
