Another Hip Injury Question (Read 51 times)

Bluejayfeather

I'm slowly trying to figure out what to do for my hip.

So, I have bursitis.  That is what my doctor says.

Should I be using heat on it?  Like a heating pad?  Or is cold better?  Or both?

      Your doctor didn't advise you?

My greater trochanter bursa flares up when I favor my opposite leg because of a bad achilles. I haven't filmed to see what I'm doing, but regardless, a change in gait irritates it. I have noticed that it will hurt less (when it does) if I take shorter, faster strides. Some people may have a leg length discrepancy that cause more impact to reach the hip, or be running on a side-sloped surface for too long.

It may not bursitis or it may be. Use whatever makes it feel better. Also, do hip/glute//hammy strength work. Ice won't help it heal. Heating pad only heats your skin and does not penetrate. You would need an infrared heating pad to penetrate or moist hot heat like a whirlpool/jacuzzi.
