RIP Milkman

    This will be my third NYC. I’m using Daniels 2Q plan.

    5K: 16:37 (11/20)  |  10K: 34:49 (10/19)  |  HM: 1:14:57 (5/22)  |  FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)

      I’m using one of their 14 week plans from the website, so I have a couple more weeks of base building before my plan starts. They have a great Facebook community if you’re into that kind of thing.

      This will be my second NYC after running it in 2016. It’s a fantastic experience! I found the logistics to be easier than I anticipated, although it’s obviously a long morning leading up to the race.

      Did you take the bus or the ferry?  Or a third option?  I'm most likely going to be on a bus.

      I saw on the Chicago Marathon thread that corral placements had been announced.  When does NY usually announce theirs?  Is it roughly in sync with the August 1 opening of transportation sign-up?

      5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22);
      10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)

      Upcoming races: Clinton Country Run 15k, 4/27; Running is Back 10k, 5/12

      RIP Milkman

        You don't find out your corrals until a couple of weeks before the race. It's indirectly taken into account with your transportation options though, as they will allow you to take a later bus if you're going to be in a later wave.

          Looking at the start times, this will require quite different preparations for me.  My previous two marathons had early morning start times, so it was a moderate breakfast, run the race, then eat lunch.

          If I get into the second wave, I'll be starting around 10:30, which thanks to the time change the night before will feel like 11:30.  In other words, I'll be running shortly before my body will be expecting to have lunch.  That's a whole different feed & fuel equation, isn't it?

          5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22);
          10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)

          Upcoming races: Clinton Country Run 15k, 4/27; Running is Back 10k, 5/12

          I lost my rama

            Well, my first full week of training is done.  I'm trying the Hansons' plan.  Anyone else out there using it?

            Which one are you using?  I tried Hansons' Advanced a couple times.  Not easy to get through all the workouts, but I guess that's the point.  Others don't like the long MP runs towards the end, but I like them and still use them in my roll my own plans.

            3/17 - NYC Half

            4/28 - Big Sur Marathon  DNS

            6/29 - Forbidden Forest 30 Hour

            8/29 - A Race for the Ages - will be given 47 hours

              I decided to try the Advanced program.  I figure worst case I can drop down to the beginner program, though near the end it's not that different.  The Hansons' plans do seem to have less taper than other plans I've seen, but I'm going to try and stick with it.

                I actually like the Hansons taper and also continue to do similar, but I will often drop off much sharper the last week.  A hard run 10 days out works well for me.

                  I took the bus at about 5:30 for the Wave 2 start. I was very early, but I was dressed warmly and didn’t mind hanging out for a few hours.

                    I did something like this my first.  Bonus you get to see the elites when they take them up to the bridge.

                      Did you take much food with you to eat while you were waiting?

                          They had bagels at the Athlete’s Village, which was enough for me. I think I brought a granola bar in my bag and ended up tossing it.

                            I recall energy bars and several other types of goodies and drinks (2015).

                              Thanks for letting me know about the food at the athlete's village.

                              Is it safe to assume the buses are standard coach buses with bathrooms in them?  Or are we talking a school bus ride?

                                Yep, coach buses with a bathroom!

                                Also, in case anyone missed the email, baggage and transportation options will be available in your MyNYRR account beginning August 2nd.
