        Got it done today.  Very happy and COLD!! Race was great .  the .7 mile walk back to the hotel was brutal LOL


        MMkerk- Thanks for tracking!!  I absolutely thought about my internet friends a few times today and dug a little deeper. When i saw 3:09Tight lippedx as I was nearing the finish I absolutely sprinted the last 400M


        JMac- I hope to get your permission to complain just a little about the wind....I would absolutely prefer it over warm temps but it made for an interesting run.

            Nice work! Yes it's definitely windy today, you get some minor complaining allowed. I just got my first text that you're through 30K: you would think these big marathons would have tracking figured out by now! Looking forward to the report.

                  @Darkwave: thanks for the shout out yesterday! It was quiet out there :-D (more below).


                  Quick last-week (13-19 Nov 2022) summary here: 43.4 mi at ave 9:37 min/mi page, 5k race on 11/19 in 25:28 which oddly enough was good enough to win the masters' women division because very few regular runners showed up.


                  I'd started off conservatively (not having raced since early July), got to a good place to start speeding up after mile 1, passed one person, and then realized that everybody in front of me was so far away I couldn't see them! So I ran the last say 1.75 mi seriously alone.


                  Saw Darkwave with maybe 3/4 mi to go, which helped.


                  I ran the race because it was #4 of a five-race series in which I've been participating. If my luck holds up I could possibly win the W50-59 div: the last race is next month. There's no way I could have won without running yesterday.

                    Christine - Nice to see your continued progress, and always great to get a W - who cares if it's a small race.


                    Fishy - Brilliant effort in rough conditions!


                    me - Not a huge week with the Queenstown half, which I intended to run at moderately easy pace and enjoy it...it didn't quite pan out that way, with the first half going well and keeping a consistent effort, but after the last steep hill (which had been removed from this course but seems to be a fixture again as it means closing a State Highway to avoid it) I started feeling like I was working way too hard.  I knew the course isn't the easiest but I was still surprised how dead my legs were by 12km.  By 14km I thought I better slow it down if I was to stay at moderately easy effort - if I'd stuck to going sub 1:35 I may have got it but more likely I would have completely blown up.  A few much slower kms and I felt a little better but was still quite lightheaded at the finish.  My feet were blistered and sore too, because 90% of the course is on a trail and I very rarely train on them.  At 16km I knew I was 1km away from a 1km stretch of road and I counted down every step...I'm not sure Queenstown is the race for me, unless I do it as a training run, it just beats me up too much.  My legs are very sore today, after going at what should be a comfortable pace.  This week was going to be close to a standard week but it will have to be a light week with only easy running, which is fine as I have plenty of time before I need to think about Christchurch.  It was a huge weekend in Queenstown though, 91% of runners come from outside the region and with 12,000 runners in a pretty small tourist town, it made for plenty of chaos.  The traffic was backed up from the airport all the way to town yesterday.

                          CH17 - good job to you as well, and I'm glad the timing worked out for me to cheer. I was a bit surprised you were finishing just as I was starting my warm-up - I thought that race started at 9am, for some reason.

                            49 miles running, 5 hours pool-running, and 500 meters swimming.

                            M: 90 minutes pool-running
                            T: 11 miles, including 6x800 in 3:31, 3:30, 3:25, 3:21, 3:20, 3:18; recoveries of 2:3x-2:5x after. Followed with leg strengthwork.
                            W: streaming yoga and 10 miles very easy (9:49) plus drills and two strides.
                            Th: 90 minutes pool-running and upper body weights/core
                            F: streaming yoga and 10 miles easy (9:41) plus drills and two strides.
                            Sa: 17.5 miles, with 4, 3, 2 miles at marathon effort and 1 mile a bit faster, with 1 mile easy between each. Paces were 7:34 for the 4 miles, 7:31 for the 3 miles, 7:36 for the 2 miles, and then the last mile in 6:59. Followed with leg strengthwork and 500 meters recovery swimming.
                            Su: 2 hours pool-running.


                            If you're wondering why I did a marathon workout on Saturday, it's because I'm entered in the Houston Marathon (8 weeks out).  I'm taking a similar attitude to Chicago - training for a marathon for the heck of it and then I'll decide whether to run the race when I get closer.


                            I entered Houston before I got Covid, which means that I ended up starting this shortened training cycle even later than I'd planned.  OTOH, Saturday's workout was really surprising - it feels like my fitness is picking up pretty close to where it was before Chicago.  So we'll see how this goes.

                              Still dealing with mild discomfort in my right hip flexor. Kind of annoying, but I'm not overly worried about it at the moment. I did mostly hold back on the mile reps but I wish they were a bit faster.
