Funny, I feel the same. I also heard somebody walking a 10K. That sounds worse to me than running a marathon. Walking 6.2 miles with no break to sit? Pass. JT - I haven't heard of this marathon, but given you will probably be ready the first weekend in December, I'd check out this link: https://runsra.org/california-international-marathon/registration/

Just $275... Cheap. And $115 of them are tax deductible But unlimited free beer courtesy of JMac
paces PRs - 5K - 5:48 / 10K - 6:05 / HM - 6:14 / FM - 6:26 per mile
RIP Milkman
If I run a PR at CIM, I 100% will buy everyone all the beer they want.
5K: 16:37 (11/20) | 10K: 34:49 (10/19) | HM: 1:14:57 (5/22) | FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)
I forgot to mention. NYC is a net downhill course, as is Boston, and of course the ultimate cheater course CIM. I guess I've never actually run a legit marathon
Cobra Commander Keen
LOL. I'm pretty sure OKC and Tulsa are net downhill as well! Cowtown might also be as well. The only marathon I've done that isn't is Dallas - the start and finish lines there are the same.
Anyone else going to be picking up their stuff from the CIM expo on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 am?

Bun Run 5k - May 4
So what is a positive split that you would deem a disaster? My worst was Edinburgh in 2010...2 months after running my first sub3 at Barcelona and full of confidence....it was unusually hot and sunny for Scotland and I ignored the warning signs....I hit halfway in 1:27 and finished in 3:13 an absolute wreck. (positive split 19min!)

I can top that by a bit... on a warm day in Chicago, I went out in 1:28 and finished with a 3:19. ooooof.
Problem Child
JMac CIM just announced they'll require a negative test or proof of vaccination. I fully support their decision and I'm unsure which option I'll choose. I know what the safest one is.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Thread dictator This needs to be added to the front page.
Mmmm Bop
That is a 23min positive split which actually falls short of a disaster. I want some proper disaster stories. Anyone?
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
My friend showed me one of these Instagram runners who posted the following a few weeks ago: "At the beginning of last year I wrote down what I thought was a very unrealistic goal for myself: BQ...Little did I know that just around the corner I would be running the Boston Marathon. But not just run, truly have a fighting chance at breaking 3."
Then, after Boston, said:
"I cannot begin to describe how proud i am to call myself a Boston Marathoner." "First marathon."
"Pred my half marathon time: 1:33"
"Set a benchmark for my marathon time: 3:32"
Then, get this: he deleted the post where he said he had a fighting chance at breaking 3 (my friend took a screenshot when it was live)
So I ask you Mikkey: what's the biggest disaster of this story? Also, I hope this fulfills your request for a proper disaster story

My first marathon was a 1:32/3:48

Wait... 2022 London marathon is going to be held on Oct 2, 2022? What happened to London being an April race?
I'll be doing the whole expo thing when I arrive on Friday.
Kind of annoying they're not doing a gear check to the finish. Feel like races are just using COVID as an excuse not to provide services they used to (nobody is catching COVID from a bag, or people handing you their bag). Oh well. I guess I'll just check it before getting on the bus, mainly as I want my phone and wallet at the end of the race. I also still have so much leftover warm clothing from previous races, I'll be nice and warm at the start if we get a typical 40 degree morning that time of year.
Get rid of the rowing and bike machine crap (I absolutely detest cyclists) And get a top of the range elliptical cross trainer. 👍
Elliptical cross trainers are probably the most functionally useless form of cardio equipment around, most physios will tell you the same. At least rowing machines and bikes provide a natural form of movement.

Ouch.
Good luck for the weekend.
My worst positive split was 24 min (while improving my position in the race by 300 places).
The disaster might be that less than 2 years after running a 3:06 I was in such bad shape that I couldn't hold 4 hour pace and faded to a 4:29.
Next: Ballarat, April 28, Pacing 3:50
Best: 5k 19:46 (Parkrun, 2016), 10k 40:37 (Track, 2022), Half 1:26:41 (2016), Full 3:00:23 (2021)
No idea why, but it’s back to April in 2023.
