Injured... but want to run (Read 670 times)

No real question here... just want to vent and well my wife and friends are sick of hearing about running... I tweaked my groin during a 10 mile race 2 weeks ago... it felt OK most of the week... and was not bothering me much at all... but then on saturday (after running about 8 miles already) I did a short 1/4 mile at about 5k pace to catch up to my running partners after stopping to say hello to a friend... and well shortly there after my groin jumped... and I suffered the last 4 miles in... especially on the hills... flat I was ok... Today is my second day of rest... it doesn't "hurt" anymore BUT I know I should give it another day or 3 rest... to fully heal... I will make myself rest today... and tomorow I will probably bike instead... but my legs feel so strong otherwise... I want to get to the track and run my intervals... And that folks is how I know I am crazy... I never ever look forward to that workout and now I am itching to do it... urg... this is like the 3rd or 4rth time this groing thing has popped up.. .and it is something that would happen all the time when I was in highschool... I am going to be doing some excercises to try to strengthen that area... oh while I am at it... I think I have a solid candidate for my spring marathon... DC march 21... and I still haven't rulled out running akron next month as an easy pace training run... If I could find a person to run with that would rock... but then again... it is $75 or 80 bucks... oh well thanks for listening...

They said that might happen in health class....

Hate to share the bad news, but Intervals are the last thing you should be doing right now. Run slow, warm up slow, cool down slow for about a month, then get back on the horse.

Probably wouldn't hurt to avoid hills, too, especially steep ones.

          Not at it at all.

How about if I go to Akron and cheer you on as you run by? I think someday I'll do the Akron Marathon (maybe in 2 years?), but I need you to run it for me so you can write up a report and tell me how tough it is. If you go to their website, they have a video that actually drives the entire course in super fast motion in about 3 mins. Doesn't look too hilly. Can't run that yet- I'm long ways off from that kind of punishment. running my first 10k in Alliance on Labor Day and it's a hilly one!! I'm just hoping to break 59:59 ( real goal is 55:00) but like you I'm injuried at the moment, but once i get going I'm ok.

started running @ age 48 [lost 70#+, quit a 30 year pack/day habit>> ran HM]  Ran a few years then quit. Gained 70#+ back and smoking like before. Time to get healthy again @ 52 years over with the C25K program and beyond again. RE-start date 1-13-14
