I hate it when that happens... (Read 427 times)

Imminent Catastrophe

Ten minutes before the start of the Chickamauga 10-miler this morning I noticed a very serious-looking runner wearing a white marathon bib, the only one among the many blue 10-miler bibs. I asked her, "What time does the marathon start?" "8:00" she said. "Umm, the 10-miler starts at 8:00, but I'm pretty sure the marathon started at 7:30" (20 minutes ago). Panicked look Surprised, and she's out the door. What a way to start a race! At least they have chip timing. BTW the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon/10-miler is a really scenic, fast, and well-organized race with the best post-race food you will ever find. Highly recommended, but get there on time!

OUCH - so sad! But with the chip system, maybe all was not lost? I ran that marathon today - sorry I missed you. We should've tried to meet up! It was my first - I'll write up a report - but maybe tomorrow. The only part of my body that's not sore is my fingers!! The good news is I survived. Chickamauga is a very nice race - but for a loop course, how is it possible that it's all uphill? Roll eyes

I'm not sure about the chip timing. The times they posted afterward were gun times, I think. Hopefully they recorded the start times too (for her sake). I know what you mean about "all uphill"--I'm feeling it, and I ran the 10-miler.

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong..... Too funny.
