Heat 1: I liked how the Jamaican women bounced up and down when waiting to take the baton. Looks cute (like kids all excited to run), and I presume it is to keep muscles warmer.
Heat 2: It was kind of sad how the later receivers had to thread through the earlier finishers.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
LOL, but waterpolo seemed to have it's fair share of rules. I'm still looking for the horses. And Ralph.
I got the impression that basketball is a lot like water polo, except goals are worth 2 (and you get an extra point for long distance goals).

2. You do not wear goggles even though you need to keep your eyes open in a clorine pool
3. The swim stroke is much different from normal swimming (feet low, chest snowplows the water)
After 6 games of watching live water polo, that's what I know.... Don't like it.

if played in a pool more than 6 feet deep I think you could dispense with the first (and only?) rule.
I think spearguns and underwater motorized speedo/James Bond things are also disallowed.
They allow those in the open water "marathon".

They're going to need to get a lot of people disqualified, at this point, to pull this off.
Which brings up an excellent point. Suppose they get everyone in the final disqualified -- then do the medals descend based on semifinal times?
The Olympics is like NASCAR, not like Football....
In Football, I follow 1 team. I follow my adopted home city (Dallas), and cheer for them. (I don't wear a Romo jersey or a Whitten jersey, but I happen to know the basics of the local sports team). When Dallas is playing I want them to win. Other than that, it doesn't matter. (with fantasy football, things change, but that's a different topic)
For NASCAR, you MUST follow more than 1 team, otherwise you can be disappointed early. A few years ago, I followed NASCAR (when I lived in Florida), and I followed Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Rusty Wallace, and whoever else. If one was having a bad day (crash, engine blown up, etc.), there was somebody else to cheer for. Without following more than 1 team, you'd quickly check out of the race.
I don't know if anybody else feels like I do, but in the Olympics, there are a few countries that I follow.
#1 USA (my adopted country)
#2 Canada (my birth country)
#3 The Netherlands (my heritage)
For Americans watching NBC, there's plenty of USA to watch in the finals of races. For others around the world, many don't have that luxury.
When "my countries" compete against each other, I have mixed emotions. For example, the semi-finals women's soccer game a couple days ago between Canada and the USA was tough to watch! Crazy tough. 3-3 score, double overtime (120th minute), and a header from the USA wins the game. For me, no emotion. No "hooray", no "crap". Nothing. Great game! Glad I was part of watching that game live (I think it was live anyway).
For those that didn't watch, I will say that the sportmanship of that game was special. In the 110th minute or so (late in the game, and when it mattered the most), a USA defender got injured without a stop play whistle. Canada got the ball and was able to "break away" with the USA 1 player down on defense. If Canada scored, Canada would have won the game. However, the Canadian player intentionally kicked the ball out of play so that the US player could be attended to. Awesome gesture. Internally, I'm wondering "now, what if the USA scores on this next possession?" The USA, in return, throws the ball in, and a USA defender punts the ball all the way to the Canadian goalie as a "thank you" for not attacking on the previous play.
For me, that was the best part of the game!

This is pretty standard practice in soccer if a player is down and there is no stoppage. At least in games I watch and have played in...
I still think it is cool every time I see it, though. You don't attack when the other team has a player down, and in return you get possession back once play resumes again.

But, if my brother (blood brother or not) was running for Canada, I'd give him a hug after we crossed the line.
