Calculators (Read 1164 times)

    Eric, I'm still new to RA (and love it by the way!) so I may have missed this if it was already addressed. Is there a way to add in a pace calculators to the Tools section? Typically on my tempo runs I run a different pace in the middle of an easier warm-up/cool-down pace. I know your site automatically calculates pace when imputting the workout data, but sometimes I find I need to do my own pace calculation, if even for future training targets, etc. Cool Running had some good calculators that I liked (as an example). Just a thought... Smile Chip

      Hi chip, A pace calculator is available. It's under Tools --> Calculators.

        It's under Tools --> Calculators.
        Ah, there's one problem that we need to clear up. Which "Tools"? The Tools link on the left, or the one on the top? They have different tools in them. We either need 2 different names, or the same set of tools available in each.

        I've got a fever...

          The Tools tab up top. Which tools link are you referring to on the left? From what page are you seeing it?

          On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

            The Tools tab up top. Which tools link are you referring to on the left? From what page are you seeing it?
            The Tool link on the left when you are looking at your Training Log.

            When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

                I have a pace calculator I created, which allows you to put in various splits on a run, and calculates the pace of each split along with the cumulative pace. The distances of the splits do not need to be even miles, they can be any mile or kilometer distance that you happen to mark as a split. You can even mix miles and kilometers. For each split you simply enter the distance, M or K (for miles of kilometers) and the split time. The other information is calculated for you. I'd be happy to share the file for others to use. It is set up as an excel template. It's excellent for marathons and runs up to 24 hours total. The results of today's 10 K looks like this. (in excel everything lines up better) Split # Distance Unit M or K Miles Split Time Leg Time Leg pace Cumulative Pace 1 __ 1 __ m __ 1.00 __ 0:12:06.43 __ 0:12:06.43 __ 0:12:06.43 __ 0:12:06.43 2 __ 2 __ m __ 2.00 __ 0:24:15.37 __ 0:12:08.94 __ 0:12:08.94 __ 0:12:07.69 3 __ 3 __ m __ 3.00 __ 0:35:59.75 __ 0:11:44.38 __ 0:11:44.38 __ 0:11:59.92 4 __ 4 __ m __ 4.00 __ 0:47:52.78 __ 0:11:53.03 __ 0:11:53.03 __ 0:11:58.20 5 __ 5 __ m __ 5.00 __ 1:00:19.74 __ 0:12:26.96 __ 0:12:26.96 __ 0:12:03.95 6 __ 6 __ m __ 6.00 __ 1:12:22.27 __ 0:12:02.53 __ 0:12:02.53 __ 0:12:03.71 7 __ 10 __ k __ 6.21 __ 1:14:29.31 __ 0:02:07.04 __ 0:09:54.45 __ 0:11:59.27 PS. I am a back-of-the-packer, average 13.5 minute miler, with lung disease who is monitoring my pace constantly. This was actually a PR for this race for me. KBD

                  Fabulous! I've posted several times about how tedious it is doing all the x60 and /60 operations to figure out pace, and noone ever mentioned that before! Plus, you gave a working link! I can save that link, because you cannot really get to it the normal way on slow internet connections (the tools page dies because it tries to embed some google map thing, I think), but using your shortcut link, you can still access it. Here were my results of trying to find something like that on the internet: http://www.geology.enr.state.nc.us/gis/latlon.html Even if I enable java, it doesn't seem to work; I just get a red x box, then it locked up my browser. http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html Must enable javascript. Answers are surprisingly imprecise (appears to ignore seconds entirely). http://www.onlineconversion.com/advanced_time_calculator.htm Must enable javascript. Very clunky and slow (have to enter each piece into different box; enter key doesn't work; only computes hours not minutes) and doesn't compute minutes. http://www.csgnetwork.com/indivdegradminseccalc.html Must enable javascript. Clunky (have to enter min & sec into different boxes) and only computes hours (deg). http://www.onlineconversion.com/advanced_time_calculator.htm Works out of the box, but, clunky (must use different boxes) and only computes hours. http://www.springfrog.com/converter/decimal-time.htm Must enable javascript. Clunky (must use different boxes) and only computes hours.

                  It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

                      The difference with this calculator is you can enter multiple splits for your entire run. It proivdes your split time and a cumulative time. I created it for my marathon during which I marked some mile splits and some kilometer splits. You have to download the excel file, but then you can create files for you favorite runs. The only key to it working is that you must enter your time including either tenths or hundreths of a second, even if you enter zero tenths - MM:SS.0 The tenths is the key to excel understanding your time entry. http://eteamz.active.com/SaintsFootball/handouts/index.cfm?cat=154243

                        New to RA also, maybe 2 months now. Is there an easier way to get average pace to graph out? I was used to be able to see my average pace by day, or by week or by year. This new graph system, I haven't quite got figured out all the way. Would be nice to have this on our home page also. Right now, it calculates miles ran and total time. Can we add, average pace for each month and for the year, boy would that be nice! Thanks!

                          Here's a thread where average pace was discussed in excruciating detail: http://www.runningahead.com/forums/topic/e6662aaacf194598ad41af8fc22beb8f
