Knee injury. ITBS? bad shoes? (Read 579 times)

Giant Flaming Dork

I'm not sure what I'm dealing with, but it's in the same area that people complain is their IT band. It's not pain, exactly, just a funny loose feeling on the outside of my left leg - right at the knee. It doesn't bother me during running, but it does bother me afterwards. What makes me think it might be the shoes is that my 2120s have almost 300 miles on them, and this falls into the 'wierd pains you haven't had before' category. Any advice?

This is how I diagnose when my ITBS is acting up: 1) Perform this stretch. 2) After holding for 30 seconds, slowly straighten your top leg. If you feel a twinge of pain as your leg rotates through 45 degrees, you have ITBS. This is a great stretch to perform immediately before and after your run, and will lesson the symptons of minor ITBS. I would think your shoes still have some life in them, but why don't you use this as an excuse to buy a new pair? Then you can use the old pair to alternate shoes on back-to-back running days.

Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream...

Hmm... I tried it, no twinge when I straightened the leg, but there was a little twinge when I rolled to a sitting position. On the outside of my left leg it went from middle of my thigh to the middle of my lower leg. Maybe the hamstring?

I have two more pairs of the 2120's, I'll try them tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you're worried about ITBS, get a stick or a roller and start using it before it gets bad.
