Love it!  I have had rides of over 80 miles on it in some tough conditions and it never lets me down!  I've had a couple of steel bikes now and have not been dissapointed.  Can't wait to throw a leg over the Vaya!

      Hey ZZ,

What's the back story on the picture Heather is holding in the video and the song (Calico Pie... Never Came Back)?

Ahhh...it's not Heather holding the photo, it's Danielle Musto (local long-distance/ultra pro) holding a photo of herself.  Heather's little girl totally idolizes Danielle.  I can think of pretty much no elite female athlete that I'd rather have my kid emulating.  She is absolutely the kindest, friendliest, most down to earth woman.  And she is ALWAYS smiling when on the bike, no matter how much she's gutting it out.  She truly is doing what she was born to do, which is so beautiful to witness at races.

I will ask her about the song.  I think maybe it's the catchiness of the tune that had her choose it.  I don't even like Natalie Merchant and I like that tune.

Re: the song...she says it's based on a poem she likes and it's a song that tends to stick in her head when she's out riding.  I never get good earworms like that...I get stupid stuff in my head. Tongue

You mean like "its.a.small world"? I had never heard of that artist or song. I spent the afternoon with her music playing in the background.in my office.... Not much as good.as. Calico Pie. Her voice is great, however.

Yes, the Small World song is a perfect example of the evil that settles in my brain...I broke down and bought an iPod when I'd been running for a few months, since the earworms were making me angry!!!

Natalie Merchant was lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs.  They were big through the '80s.  I never was really a fan.  I think they had one radio hit that annoyed me.  And she danced weirdly in the videos I saw...so it was like a visual earworm. Tongue

I generally really like folksy stuff like Calico Pie, though.

Keeping up with the theme -- Calico Skies

Something tells me the list of calico songs is pretty short

On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

JLB, guess what I'm getting?!  DH kinda let it slip that he put in an order for a 2013 El Mariachi 3 the last time he was in at the LBS.  Today we got notice from Sallie Mae that my last student loan payment is upcoming and I took that opportunity to suggest that now is the perfect time to find something else to invest that money towards, heh. Wink He said it was already a done deal! Big grin

Kinda nice timing, since Saturday was my first ever mountain bike race (a 6 hour relay on Sat.  I only ended up riding about 2 hours, since my teammate bailed after 2 laps.  68 year old wuss, heh.  I made it 4 before deciding to quit while I was still smiling and because I didn't want to totally trash myself before riding 60 miles on the road, yesterday (Sun.), and only a week before my big ride across the state.  I had one kinda scary crash on my first lap that had me sliding on my back down a hill, oops.  Can't get the dirt stains out of that jersey!).  Looking at the photos is proof of how painfully small my bike is.  I'm looking forward to rolling around on a 29er.

Modified because I suck at typing and remembering what day it is.

Love, love me some 29er! 106 El Mariachi miles last Friday and 24 tonight! In between, unboxed and assembled my brand spanking new Salsa Vaya Ti! Pics later... MTA... Congrats on the new El Mariachi, imaginary friend!

Oh, that is SO cool!  Someday I will have a Ti!  Now I have carbon, aluminum, and steel.  Clearly what I need is a Ti Mukluk! Tongue

Next year you should come do the 6 or 12 hour relay with me. Big grin

That El Mariachi looks very nice. I'd like to try a 29er one day.

I'm currently suffering from the same cursed ailment as you. I just bought a used Gunnar Crosshairs frame and fork that I'll be building up over the next month. I've yet to figure out when I'll have time to use it because I can't even find time to ride my MTB! This now puts me on carbon, aluminum, steel, and steel. I will not be buying a muckluk!

Why the hell not?!  It's totally my N+1 bike, now.  I rode one once...fun as hell, not fast, but SUPER stable and elicits giddy giggles.  Floats over snow and sand, which we have in some quantity in these parts year-round.

The Gunner Crosshairs is a really nice bike.  I have 2 friends who use them as their primary bikes, with slick tires for racing.  Too bad they don't make them small enough to fit squatty little me.  They're pretty much a no-go for anyone without at least a 32" crotch-to-floor inseam--mine is 30.
