IMKY13 finish!!
Anyone have experience running with an infected pilonidal cyst that is healing up nicely?
Fitness/weight goals for 2014
1) STAY INJURY FREE!!!
2) Get to 189 lbs by the end of July 2014...and stay there (as of 4-25-14 was at 203 lbs)
3) Complete Ironman Chattanooga in under 14 hours
4) Break 4 hours in a stand alone marathon (Goal race=Rocket City 12/13/14)
5) 4,500 total overall miles for the year:
Swim: 100 miles
Bike: 3,000 miles
Run: 1,400 miles
Do you still have the cyst or did you get it surgically removed?
I had one, in my pre-running days (when I was playing hockey). If you haven't had it removed, I'd strongly recommend that you try to do so. It'll just flare up from time to time otherwise and when it's bad - as you probably know - it can be pretty miserable to run on.
If you've had surgery to remove it, I'd be a bit careful around getting back into running. Just follow whatever your doctor says. They are very slow to heal due to the location, so you'd want to avoid doing anything that'll slow the healing down. From memory it took me a good month.

No, I haven't had it removed (yet)….I have a couple of important races coming up, and can't be down for 6 weeks. After these races, I might have it removed...unless it flares up again. We shall see
My dad had it bad and had the surgery as a young man. I had a couple flare-ups as a young adult, but nothing bad enough to suggest surgery. I'd totally forgotten I had it until I saw this thread. Every few years there's a very minor reminder flare-up.
So I guess I have absolutely nothing to contribute to this thread other than that I know what that is and I have it.
