Forgot to mention the most beautiful sound I heard. First let me frame it - several years ago, my wife and I visited a B&B. We were sitting on the lawn and a flock of geese flew overheard but low to the ground. Their wings made this wonderful wooshing sound as they all flew together. I thought this was the most beautiful sound until I heard all of those footsteps moving together at the starting line. No talking, no cars, just hundreds of feet moving together.

I LOVE that sound, too! Part of me is bummed that my HM in 2.5 weeks us a USATF event and iPods are banned (I know there will be miles when I don't want to talk to anyone and there will likely not be many runners around me--this was the case last year, too), but another part of me enjoys the sounds of the race, so I won't be TOO upset. k
