How can I protect my knees best? (Read 948 times)

I've just begun running again. I used to sprint however stopped for various reasons. Other than a good pair of shoes (I've got my ASICS) what can I do to protect my knees when running? I find they get stiff when/after I run and would like to avoid this if possible. Thanks! L

How stiff are we talking? A little aches and pains? Or can't walk or get up from the chair? Any swelling? Any pain/stiffness during your runs? Just curious. Roll eyes

Well I don't know if you have heard of this before but apparently I have this extra thing of muscle over my knee caps. So I have to be careful not to work my legs out too much or the muscle just ends up rubbing more against my knee cap. Which is the cause of the stiffness. If I over do it I have pain but I ually avoid that. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to avoid wrecking my knees in any other way so to prevent more stiffness, pain etc.

If you have some sort of genuine structural abnormality (and I think that would qualify!) then you should work with your specialist/physical therapist to find out what works best for you. I don't think something like that would keep you from running, but they'll have the physical know-how to help you work with your body rather than against it. Janell
