Realistic pace goals for marathon (Read 976 times)

    Is that a typo?

We'll give you one guess! :-)

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Sorry.  That's my fault.  Sarcasm and general ass-ishness are hard to portray over the interwebz.  If anything serious ever does come out of my mouth, you'll know it.  Until then, take whatever I type with a grain of salt.

But I really don't know who the marathon record holder is.  I'm guessing it's not actually anyone here at RA, right?

Assuming this isn't also sarcastic and I'm just being an idiot...

The answer is Patrick Makau. Sadly, to the best of my knowledge, I don't believe he is a member of runningahead as awesome as that would be.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that. "If I am still standing at the end of the race, hit me with a Board and knock me down, because that means I didn't run hard enough" If a lot of people gripped a knife and fork the way they do a golf club, they'd starve to death. "Don't fear moving slowly forward...fear standing still."

It's chilidogbeagle.  Am I talking to myself here or what?

CDB is modest, which is good. That is why you won't catch any of us bring up her "incident" at London in '05.

No.  The world record holder is actually chillidogbeagle.  How do you not know this?

Really... Sheesh. Imagine my surprise to see so much activity on this thread. Since I generally have my beagle type for me and he's rather thick pawed and prone to typos, I will blame him for any mischatacterizations or fabrications.

Wait. Aug 26. training run of 20mi @ 8:52 pace. That's faster than 3:55 marathon pace.

I'm no expert, just another complete amateur, but that sounds like you have strength to improve already, plus you have months to train.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

holy crap, you are good... for a nominal fee would you come and organize the rest of my life this nicely?

Someone told me the trick of going to Training Log and then clicking on Calendar, and then you can pick some month in the past and get a nice review of the training for that month -- plus if you pause your mouse over any of the listed runs, details will popup.

They should build a website around something like that.  People would flock to it.

Yeah but who would pay for it?  (not so subtle reminder)

I was just playing detective and asking the question a couple of different ways to see if I would get conflicting answers, but you held to your story, so it must be true.  Hooray, CDB!

And thank you Law and Order.

There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.
