Food for exercise (Read 108 times)

    That is... a lot.

I, a 140 pound runner, in no way need 30+ ounces of fluid for a 7 mile run in 70 degree heat. That's about an hour of running for me, and 10-20 ounces max. More than that and my stomach hurts. If I tried to keep up 4.6 ounces/mile in a longer ultra, I'd maybe get hyponatremia.

Now that you mention it, who would ever do that?!

Well, check it out, our friends at Runner's World:

And it is still a lot.

Hyponatremia will fuck you up. Want to know how much to drink? If you are thirsty, drink. If you aren't, do not. That's actual science.

Trying to do calculations and whatnot based on weight is fraught with difficulty and ye old compounding factors. Plus, Runners World.

Yes, they are delicious. And with the nuts, not the worst nutrition-wise. 👍

        It's a candy bar.

(FWIW, gels aren't magic nutrition, and tailwind is a bag of sugar)

take a big bite of that snickers bar, chew it up real well, and spit it out.

Bet you do just as well as if you ate that god awful thing.

There's studies that suggest I might be right, but try it and see.

Well, it looks like just under 50% of a snickers is sugars, and about 50% is peanuts or cocoa powder.

I'd have that over a "bag of sugar" for a regular meal / a boosting, easy snack.

Though I can see the point of "topping up" with sugar and caffeine during long cardio sessions.

Well I'm going for a run afterwards, and just had a couple of snickers and a protein shake, about 600 calories.

My BMR is around 2500, and I eat about 4 meals a day.

I'll probably use 1500 calories on running today.

Is the above bad, in total?
