So the rest of NZ will be staying in Level 2 while Auckland is in Level 3 or higher.  My hopes for Wellington have decreased significantly.

It feels tight.  If things go to plan Auckland will be at Level 3 by 22 Sept.  Oct 10 would give us 2.5 weeks to get to Level 2 in Auckland.  It's not impossible but it relies on everything going to plan with no hiccups.  Honestly, I don't envy the Wellington Marathon organisers.  It feels like there's a very good chance that - yet again - they won't be able to make a call until race week.

Yep - they have said they will make the call on October 5.  So I guess they're expecting a decision on the levels on the Monday.  The only way they go ahead is if Auckland gets 2 weeks at Level 3.  After 5 weeks at Level 4, it seems like absolute best case scenario.  Or just very unlikely.

      RIP Milkman

Didn't realize level 4 was so restrictive. Sorry Mark. We went through that for basically 6 weeks and I hope to never see it again. You've now done it a few times. Brutal.

Thanks man.  It's tough, but it's worked before, and it seems to be working again.  I just hope it gets the job done before the spring race window is gone.  Feels like I've got a really good race or two in me at the moment.

Keen - mohawk away those gray hairs haha, that’s what I do anyway.

So, your RR was great and all, don’t get me wrong, but now I really want to read “old man”’s race report.

“ … and as I was approaching mile number 5, I saw something that my brain couldn’t immediately compute, a fully grown man in pink …”

Steve/Mark - it’s not there yet, but the fear mongering about covid is on the same level as the one from terrorism. A couple dozen people die each year yet you have to take off your shoes at the airport and let Uncle Sam (and 5 eyes or is it 9 eyes now) watch your every move and steal your intellectual property.

me - a nice 3k time trial this morning in 10:41 (PR is 10:34). Very close to PR even though in the middle of marathon training and no taper.

I know I gave it my all cause on the last km I wanted to spit, I first looked around to ensure there were no Jmacs nearby and then aimed at the right side. Instead of doing its curvaceous trip to the ground it instead just dropped on my right arm 🤦‍♂️

Splits were roughly 3:30, 3:31 and 3:40 so yeah nice pain cave.

Flavio 🔥🔥👟👟🔥🔥 Great work in the middle / peak of marathon training. I bet that last KM was brutal.

Mark In the interest of trying to cheer you up, at least your lockdowns work. We had some restrictions put in place for multiple months but they were often ignored and our numbers rose consistently... Almost just need to let Darwin do his work at that point

              1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

JMac - When he added me on Strava I was a bit surprised to find out that he's "only" a 2:56 marathoner. Likely because he probably hasn't run one in several years and that PR is really soft.
I'm certainly interested in seeing what sort of time he can throw down this fall - after the race he mentioned a pretty flat marathon in Wichita in about a month that he may run.

Steve - Sounds like a great partner if she's willing to act that way.

Flavio - Ha! That would be an interesting one to read.

                Awesome TT!

Our weather seems to be turning a bit. Highs aren't much different yet, but the lows are dropping a few degrees from what they were a couple weeks ago - though dew point is staying up there. It's at least promising for my half in a couple weeks.

                Running Problem

                Problem Child

You look like such a cliche road runner with how color coordinated you are. The old guy looks like he just rolled out of the bedroom to do house chores.

EDIT: I've seen JMac in person. He barely looks old enough to have a high school diploma and that was 2 years ago this December.

RP - The "old" guy actually found me on Strava. Flipping through pictures from the race here he is (finishing first 5k lap):

Dude runs sub-6 min miles for 10k wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt! Makes me feel about like I haven't earned my fancy running clothes.

While looking through those pictures I decided that I run ugly. Whether or not I'm an ugly runner is also up for debate. Finishing the first 5k loop:

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Keen what sort of mileage has that guy been logging on strava ? My bet is 30 mpw and he still throws down a 38 ish 10k.

Flavio very nice 3k. I think once you are back into good training again that your 3k pace will be your 5k pace.

Steve - if Wellington is cancelled, there is Wairarapa 7 November.  A Wellington cancellation plus Wairarapa being the Wellington regional marathon Champs might make it an option.  Pre warning that there will be a lot of running by yourself.

Watson - yeah, there are a few options on November 7 - Dunedin and Selwyn too both of which have strong fields. But it’s only 13 days before Queenstown which I’m committed to so I’m not sure I want such a small gap. I actually started contemplating another time trial today.

I would take Dunedin over Wairarapa 11 times out of 10.  Bigger field, better event, faster course, probably better conditions too.

But will Dunedin happen at Level 2?  Wairarapa will.

If Dunedin is on, then definitely it's a better choice.
