Passed an Olympian this morning (Read 1128 times)

AnneCA

At least, I'm pretty sure I did. Magdalena Lewy-Boulet, US marathoner. I think she does live near me, and the woman I passed looked just like the life-sized Lewy-Boulet poster that has been hanging in the window of my neighborhood running store for a while. Plus, she was booking -- her pace definitely made her stand out from the neighborhood regulars! MTA: and when I say "passed" -- I mean I was going the other direction! Big grin

Heh, fun is! Up here we get to see Joanie a lot, which is nice. She hasn't been an Olympian for a long time, but we don't mind. Smile I even got punched during a race by her once.

We have a recent Olympian luger in these parts...I wouldn't know him if I saw him on the street, though. Those guys are pretty incognito in their luging attire.

hee hee... "luger"; I always think 'loser' when I hear that. Nothing against actual lugers at all... it's pretty cool and looks like it would be a blast, but the name is just funny. Big grin

          Right on Hereford...

Cool...we have tons of Olympians around here, but for some reason I almost never see them! Where do they hide, I wonder?

I think of 1) someone who is good at spitting loggies or 2) the Nazi pistol of choice. (oh crap, I brought up that word. I don't mean to kill this thread. Seeing Olympians is cool. Frank Shorter shows up at the Kona Marathon every year... he runs the half... always cool.)

At the Crim 10-mile about a week and a half ago, I was warming up before the race when I looked over and realized that I was running next to all of the Kenyans. I said good morning to them, and they smiled and said hello back. Then I turned to my friend and we both commented about how we kept up with the elite runners Big grin - even if only for a warmup Wink

Maybe I'm missing them...where do you usually see the elusive Olympians, and how do you know who they are? (You're in Boulder, too, right?)

They are running so fast you cant see them.......like the FLASH........... Shocked I ran in a race once with Bill Rodgers.........Now there were around 5,000 to 6,000 people and he was in the top 5% and I was in the botton 20%, but I did run in a race with him...... Big grin

                      Half Fanatic #846

When I was at the Snicker's 1/2 Marathon in March, I actually passed Jeff Galloway. Cool Oh, did I forget to mention he was carrying a box of books and that I was at the expo? Wink But I think he "Gallowalked" the half with one of his training groups...

"I don't always roll a joint, but when I do, it's usually my ankle" - unk.         "Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a bit tired of your shirt".                  I ran half my last race on my left foot!

Yeah, but didn't you hug a sweaty Zoomy post-race once? I mean...Kenyans...whoop-de-doo. They're at any major race and I'll bet they wouldn't hug ya'! Evil grin

                            A Saucy Wench

I almost got run over by Lance Armstrong about a month ago on his bike fundraising thing. The 47 motorcycle cop escort was a clue. I live pretty close to Nike HQ so we get a fair number of celebraletes in town. And then of course at Hood to coast every year the elites pass by in the middle of the night. pat pat pat whooosh... you can barely see them, they just float by and are gone.

At the '03 Bix 7, I got kicked down by Catherine Ndereba. For about the final 2 miles, I could hear the cheers growing shortly after I passed by and knew that it wasn't for me, until finally, around the last turn, I got reeled in and had to make a quick decision as to whether I wanted to be "that guy" kicking to try and hold off the women's winner and probably get in her way when breaking the tape, or shut it down and share my story of how I got kicked down by an Olympian for years to come. I think I made the right choice. Smile
