Right on Hereford...
Help me out, here, people!
Thursday/Friday/Saturday in Las Vegas. Staying at the Bellagio, which I think might be on the Strip. Any good running routes near there? I don't think we'll have a car.
i sacrificed the gift
For the love of god get a car/taxi/donkey and get down to red rock canyon!!!!
Yeah, I used to climb there a bunch. Are you talking about running on the loop road? Do you think that would be safe?
Can the wild burros be lassoed and ridden? If so then I might not need a car.
Yeah, the road loop is completely safe. It's 1 way, much wider than 1 car width, and 15 mph speed limit strictly enforced. I run it whenever I go to Vegas. Used to be several times a year (changed jobs so I only go for fun now).

I did a week in Vegas recently, and started out running the steps of the Luxor -- that's neat looking (the steps in the pyramid walls I mean). But that made my toes bleed after two days, so I switched to running the Strip (fairly boring asphalt jungle, except for admiring the casinos & fountains ). Much better in the morning than later in the day, cause it gets crowded later and is a pain with all the pedestrians.
There's a little road behind the Luxor (between it and Las Vegas Freeway -- I guess it is an access road for the Las Vegas Freeway) that is deserted -- for more boring asphalt running. Kinda fun when you go south and it curls around Mandalay.
None of it holds a candle to Red Rock Canyon, but we only had a car on the weekend, so I ran the Strip all through the week.
I also ran west on Hacienda to Decatur and around the blocks out there. More boring asphalt jungle running.
So I got nothing really
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Frank Sinatra Drive.
This is the road where the big parking garage for Mandalay Bay and others dumps out. Usually it is deserted... but if there's one place where you might encounter "drunk guy going on 48 hours with no sleep and not paying attention whatsoever to pedestrians" this might be it. But heck, if you are going to run on any of the roads near the casino, you have to have your wits about you, so no new words of wisdom here. I've run on Frank Sinatra, but I was not listening to Frank Sinatra on my headphones.
You kooky cats.
I was there in October and ran the strip a couple mornings @ 6:30. Started at the Luxor and headed down the strip. There were a fair amount of runner and walkers out already. The stairs and bridges make it a fun place to run.
And with the 3 hour time difference, 6:30am vegas time wasn't hard to adjust to.
I never made it to Red Rock but that looks like a great place to run.
nothing to see here.
I've actually run the strip, early in the morning it's mostly deserted.

Okay, I've never run in Vegas. Did roam around once taking photos. Also realized that once I left the main downtown area and strip, I was suddenly not very 'comfortable'. I recall a vehicle slowing down as it passed me, making me a tad nervous.
Back from Vegas...my trip was ok (not great, not terrible). I do not recommend taking a 2-year-old there if you can help it.
We ran on the strip all 3 days. It wasn't too bad, especially once you get past the most crowded areas. The pedestrian overpasses were good for a little strength training. I could not believe all the porn on the sidewalks (running with the wife, it is NOT a good idea to watch where you put your feet in Vegas)!
I ran the strip from the south end of the airport all the way to downtown. There are some 'interesting' areas between the main strip and downtown. I was bummed that we didn't get a chance to run in the Red Rocks area.
Anyway, thanks for the advice, folks.
p.s. Net gain of $2.00 from gambling on the trip. It paid for the bellboy's tip, at least.
Planning to run White Rock Trail loop when I'm out next Saturday. I hope to get out there early enough to beat any serious heat.
Maybe a silly question, but I've never run this kind of trail (i.e. a trail not marked with blazes on trees). Are the trails out there well marked / easy to navigate?
Come all you no-hopers, you jokers and roguesWe're on the road to nowhere, let's find out where it goes

Running through the outside part of Ceaser's Palace is a bit nostalgic.

Everything's marked very well. There are little signs at any point where you may be in doubt. I don't recall the White Rock Trail loop, but if it's like most of the others in Red Rock Canyon, you'll be doing a lot of running on flash flood "beds" composed of loose, large gravel. No fun to walk on, much less run on. Hope White Rock is different/better.
Good for you if you're going to run that....a smooth XC course is hard enough! If you get into it, you might want to climb Turtlehead Peak. Hard (it's rated "Strenuous" by the Park Service) but worth every bit of it.
