Women's running tights (Read 1153 times)

Hi, I have the CWX stabilyx tights. I really liked them for the most part, they fit great, and I used them all last winter. This winter though, I noticed all the design has faded on the front (started last season), plus I got this tiny hole on the front top of them. And worst of all, I also have been getting chafing "down there" (sorry, TMI) on longer runs, which never happened. I started using body glide, which helped, but now that I'm looking to buy a second pair, not sure if I should seek another brand. Any suggestions on others or feedback on the CWX? I have muscular legs, including larger calves, so tights are not easy to find that will fit me well. I also am curious how many women wear underwear with them? I never have, but the first time I did was when I had chafing....but then the next time I did not wear them, and I still had mild chafing - so not sure if the tights are just worn out?? Just strange, they are practically brand new. Very disappointed since I paid $100 for them and even just the design wearing off is frustrating.

Are you putting them in the dryer? That could explain the wear and tear.

I always go commando. The second time you chafed it may have been just sore still from the last run.

My favorites are the Brooks Utopia tight. Snuggly and warm. I've never tried the CWX.

I used to like CWX tights, but I found they fell apart too quickly for that price point.  Strangely, I have a couple of pair of tights I bought from Target made by Champion that have lasted a very long time.  If I wear tights, I generally wear those.  I have a couple of pair of New Balance and Brooks running pants that I like.  As for undies, Patagonia makes some that work well in my opinion.

I just bought lululemon tights today. I have some of their running capris and they'be been great!

I got some tights from REI for xmas that seem to be pretty good.  My Santa said that they were a very good deal too, so they are probably not as expensive as some of the others that are available.

Thanks so much for all the replies!

Lilac, I never put in dryer, always hang dry. That's why I don't get why the design ripped in spots. You're probably correct, I could have still been sore from the first time. Will look at the Brooks too, thanks!!

ultra, so funny you mention that because I have one pair from Target that I wear on shorter runs and I swear they have held up better than the CWX....and they were only $25!!

runningaround, thanks, I love lululemon, I just wish there was a store closer to me that I could try them on. But I will check out their site and see.

Sugnim, thanks, good to know. I know I should be able to find a pair for less $$$ somewhere.

My CW-X tights have lasted for several years now with no fading or holes. Other tights that have held up well are Brooks and Pearl Izumi.

I almost always go commando under tights, except when I wear compression shorts beneath for extra warmth. I never warmed up to Body Glide for chafing--I find it has a weird texture. Instead, I use chamois cream made for biking. One tube of Bliss costs $15-20 and lasts almost a year. It's also good for soothing and healing previous chafing, if you ever forget to use it before a run or chafe in a new place (like today when I wore a previously-untried combo of bra and shirt that gave me some underarm chafing).

Commando. My favorite pair of tights are made by Puma and I have had them over a year now and they've worn great! I'd also recommend the Saucony NMD pant. They're not tights, but they're made for cold weather running. They're wind proof and very comfortable, but not too baggy like regular wind pants. They would be a nice alternative to tights!

Majope, thanks for the bliss tip! I called my local running store and the girl said she had the same issues with hers. I really do like them though, so I am still thinking of buying a new pair. I might try to sew the hole, it's really tiny and it's not as if it's in the crotch, it's on the front just below the top of the tights.

                    MJ5 - I'm a saucony person, I should look at those!!

I have a pair of Brooks thermal tights that are on their third winter and still as good as new (worn 3+ times/week from October to April and washed weekly, so I do wear underwear, otherwise I'd have to wash them each time).

I have CW-X capris and I like wearing them more for recovery instead of during runs. Something about the  high compression just doesn't gel with my stride well.

My go-to winter tights are Nikes, with the zippers at the ankles. I have 2 pairs and they are pretty warm, without being too warm.

I just got a pair of Brooks Infinity tights for Christmas, and will be trying them out tomorrow in the snow. Will post here how they turn out.

Thanks, please do! I am going to try them on at the running store, but will probably hold off buying them since I think they're less expensive online. So I will definitely check back for your report Smile

I just ordered a pair of Under Armour Cold Gear compression tights today, looking forward to trying them out.  I've been rotating through a couple of pairs of New Balance tights and a pair of C9's for several years, now, and they've worked fine for me.  I usually will wear shorts over the tights once it gets below freezing.

I have heard complaints about the CWX tights with the piping on them...are those the Stabilyx one?  My one friend said the seam ripped along the piping, and he sewed it back together only to have to come apart again.  Not worth the money, he said.

Yes - the Stabilyx!!  That's exactly where it ripped, along the piping. I went into the running store and tried on the Brooks Infinity II and they fit nice, but they are not nearly as compressing as the CWX - which might not necessarily be a bad thing!  They also suggested I contact CWX regarding how the tights ripped, but I honestly doubt they will do anything almost a year later. Thanks for the heads up, I won't even attempt to sew them. Let me know how the UA tights work  Smile

I don't dryer dry mine, they hang inside out(and are washed inside out as well).

I wear undies with mine, but they are the boy/boxer cut kind(tight not loose). I tried commando once, not for me.

I have several pair, I like them all, they are seasonal weights:

                                Yellowman light tights.

                                Title Nine medium weight tights.

                                Sugoi SubZero tights.

The yellowmans are my least favorite. They have no pockets and no ankle zips and elastic waist with no drawstring. But they are like wearing nothing, so it is nice as that first cooler weather wear after being used to wearing shorts. $50

The Title Nine medium weight ones are freakin awesome! They were called the "Power Reflective Tight" a few years back but they don't make them anymore. If I could ever find another pair, I'd be in heaven! They fit like a dream and are cute on. Only thing I don't like about T9 is that they rename stuff and don't always list the manufacture. So finding like items(or out of stock items is hard!) $75

The Sugoi ones are also amazing. They fit really nicely and have details that runners love(gummy hems, rear centered zip pocket, drawstring) and are fleeced on the inside. Only thing I would change is the seam that runs along your lower knee. It just bugs me being there but it doesn't cause chafing or discomfort, just annoyance. $100

I just bought some Nike capris but they didn't have drawstrings, just elastic. I have ran enough to know that I prefer drawstrings with elastic. So I returned them. I have some T9 capris coming that are supposed to be what I am looking for. They are like the T9 Endurance short(which I have and love) but longer. We'll see..in April.....once it actually warms up again!
