Using Garmin 310xt in an indoor pool (Read 64 times)

tomatolover

I'm just learning how to swim and would love to keep an idea of how many laps I'm doing, but generally lose count after 8.  I have a garmin 310XT that i've used for biking and running but have no idea how to:

    1. switch it to swim mode

    2. set it up so that it knows i'm doing 25 yards/lap

3.count the laps x 25 yards for distance measure.

    4. Upload it to RA so that i know how much time/lap i'm taking

If anyone has figured this out, I'd love to have your advice

    thanks!

The 310XT can't track laps in an indoor pool... that's pretty much the only difference between the 310XT and the 910XT.

If you hit lap after every one of them, it will count the laps.

Then if you upload into RA, you just have to manually adjust the distance for each lap to be 25 m.

So do I set the garmin to "other" or is there a swim setting?

I haven't used my 310 for swimming since I've gotten my 910, but as far as I can recall, yes, you'd have to choose "other."

Not sure it really matters.  As long as you hit start, lap and stop you will be recording the information.  Just to emphasize though -- this is essentially a water resistant stop watch technique.  You will have to manually change the distance for each interval to get it to calculate.

                So you are newbie, right?

As for a swimming newbie, I thought this watch is not suit for you. These kind of automatic sensor sports watch all have the requirement of action. If you are beginner, the watch always has many wrong records.

As for newbie, COUNTU Goal is more recommended. It's smaller, easy to use, cheaper, and with vibrate alarm function. Hope helpful.
