Yesterday I was sick, sickest I've been in seven or eight years.  Not a stomach bug, PTL, but wow...severe aches, a cough, very dizzy if I tried to walk around.  And, of course, lack of appetite.  Came in with about a 750-calorie deficit, even on my "lose one pound a week" budget.  Feeling a little better today, though I still have the cough, and am pretty listless.  Temp is down to 99.4 (was 102.3 this time yesterday).

So, just out of curiosity, what was my body burning as fuel yesterday, during my tempo runs to the bathroom and the 2 X 10M repeats to the kitchen to refill my glass?  Fat?  Stored glycogen?

      It's burning your soul!  Evil

Just kidding.  That sounds horrible.  I hope you feel better soon.  I made some chicken soup last night which I would message to you if I could.

mostly acidic bile that you didn't excrete through some other opening.

Gum you swallowed many years ago.

sugnim - Thanks!  The way I looked yesterday, I'd have believed it was burning my soul.  I had this "zombie hobo" look goin' on, and we all know neither zombies nor hobos have souls.

BoilerTom90 - I did have one bout of mostly dry heaves early in the morning that I think got rid of a good bit of bile.

Nakedbabytoes - can I train my body to utilize swallowed gum as fuel during the marathon?

To answer your question:  fat, stored glycogen, maybe some muscle.  Possibly in that order.
