Forums >Racing>5k time and average mileage
Hey folks!
I was wondering if you guys could help me out with this study I'm doing for a stats class. What was your last 5k time and the average weekly mileage you used to get that time?
Any data would be much appreciated!
you probably need to define over what time period, if weekly mileage is the data point you want.
It would make your analysis a lot more meaningful if you added age and gender at a minimum.
If you're really just looking to correlate two sets (in your case weekly mileage and time), you'd probably get a lot more data just scraping the bajillion race results online and doing age/time, than asking for voluntary data from a small pool of folks. (it would be equally meaningless, but there'd be a lot more of it)
Come all you no-hopers, you jokers and roguesWe're on the road to nowhere, let's find out where it goes

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
22:35 on 50 miles/week. In 2009 at age 57.
I don't race a lot. In my entire life, two 5K's, six half marathons, and eleven full marathons.
Still kicking
19:14, 30 mpw, Male- 56
I'm also on Athlinks and Strava
My last 5k was 4 seconds off my personal best. My weekly mileage leading up to it was quite low as I was coming off an injury and slowly building it back up.
Male, 32
19:47
36kmpw/22mpw (8 week average leading up to the race)
Personal Bests: 5k 19:43 (04/2017), 10k 43.24 (10/2016), Half 1:33:18 (10/2017), Full 3:32:47 (05/2017)2018 Targets: 5k: sub19, 10k: sub41, Half: sub90
This deserves an asterisk as the last 4 years has been really poor training.
15mpw, 17:36 5k
18:36 Male, Age 51 at time (2016)
~55 mpw (for ~12 weeks during marathon training; 5K was run 3 weeks after marathon, mostly recovery miles 20-30 mpw during those 3 weeks)
My last five 5K races below. 60 day miles is the miles I ran in the 60 days prior to the race.

Average weekly mileage for how long? And not asking for age/gender?
I’m sure your study will make fascinating reading.
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
SMART Approach
May 2015 19:52. Age 49 23-26 miles per week. 179 lbs
September 2017 21:05 Age 51 22-24 miles per week 186 lbs
2 years and 7 lbs on basically same miles per week and much variance. The point is that so many variables go into this. At age 20 I probably run in the 18s on same training and my genetics. If l drop muscle or wt and race at 170 lbs today, I am back in the 19s.

Also, many of the logs are open here on RunningAhead. You can compile plenty of data if you are willing to put in the time and effort of going through the logs.

Somewhere on another computer I have a pretty nice graph over a decade showing a pretty good correlation from 10K in 34:30ish at 40-50mpw to under 31 at ~110mpw. Not easy to look it up, sorry. I basically took the best race performance at each year and converted to the 10K equivalent.
