    I never get them, except in longer races (HM, full M), when it's warm. I don't know if it's because of dehydration, or because I'm exerting myself by breathing harder because of the heat, or because my breathing is too shallow... but the only way I can get rid of them is by slowing down, and it really sucks to do so in a race.

      You may try changing your breathing pattern. For example, if you exhale on your right foot, change the exhale on your left foot and vice versa.
