ElFear if there is a timing mat at half way you could always race the first 10K of the half then shut it down and do a cool down for the second part. That's a good idea. From all the comments so far, it sounds like the safe bet is to not run the half at full tilt but to pace it more like a long run or maybe shut down early.

SMART Approach
Use it as a race rehearsal. Do everything you will do the day, evening and morning of marathon. Do same fuel and warm up and run your first 2 miles like you would the marathon. This can help you race day. Then ease into your normal comfortable long run pace next 8-9 miles. For last 2-3 miles pick it up like a fast finish long run. This will still be a very good work out without the excessive stress of a HALF race.
