Where to post this... grear advice needed... and some bragging too (Read 512 times)

One part bragging, one part advice seeking (more bike related than running, sorry): Anyway, I need a new cycle computer. Mine mysteriously died this weekend and I did not notice until I was on the subway headed to Central Park for a Triathlon (which I miraculously took first in my age group!). I tried my gf's computer battery since she was with on her bike but not racing. It worked to light the thing up, but then it appeared to die again (battery worked again in hers). So, in a nutshell, I had to race with no computer --which did not turn out to be as bad as I expected, since I still KILLLED on the bike leg (I also killed on the run too Big grin ). Anyway, now I need to get a new computer and I want to know what ones are good/reliable. Mine was a wired Trek with speed/ave speed, distance, etc, and had temp and cadence. I never could get the cadence to work though, or it would work very randomly. In hindsite, I should have maybe known the unit was a bit wonky. So, I told myself that if I did well in the race I'd reward myself with a new toy. At the time, I was thinking a T3 carbon Cervelo, but you know how those fantasies go when you're racing and day dreaming, and how they end when you finish and actually think about your checking account. Anyway, I think a new computer is more up my alley. So I'd like suggestions. Also, are wireless ones any good? If I get that, it'll be easier to set up. Oh, and I have Tri Bars clipped to my drops, so I need something that fits on the tri bar and I already have the bar adaptor thingie which hopefully is universal (does anyone even know what I'm talking about!? --Surely there are some triathletes on this board?!) Side note, I beat my friend who was on a tripped out cervelo T3 (she's sponsored and gets better sh*t than I can afford). Her swim and T1 was better, but my Bike, T2 and Run were WAY better and ultimately, that's what makes or breaks a triathlon.

I've fitted mine on a bracket between the tri bars, I use Topeak Comp 130 because they are cheap, easy to use and give me all I need, I have them fitted to four of my bikes. The only time I use cadence is on the turbo trainer and its preinstalled on that anyway. I don't like wireless as its two batteries to worry about also can you get wireless with cadence? To be honest with some of the GPS based kit thats coming out it won't be long before I start looking in that direction so I just have one for all the bikes and running. The latest Garmins they were using on the tour include a HRM as well. I always wear a HRM when running, doing a hard ride or on a Time Trial.

Good point. My garmin that I use for running could be switched to bike mode, and has a heart rate monitor, but I'd like something dedicated to my bike and the bike-specific garmins are more than I wanna spend and very bulky. All I really wanna know is my speed, ave speed and distance. Temp was cool to have but really useless except to say, yeah, holy sh*t it's cold/hot out, but my skin can tell me that Wink

I have a Specialised Allez ( Road ) for the Summer, an Orange P7 Pro MTB ( the latest aquisition ), a Lee Cooper Time Trial bike, a Rossin Road bike ( that cost next to nothing ) for the Winter and a Scott Endorphin MTB and I use them all as I ride to work all year but Mrs Jules keeps nicking the Scott since her bike was stolen. This is a picture of the Orange in Scotland earlier this year.
