Think Whirled Peas

I'm amazed...15 pages of Michigan based nothingness.... So a question for all of you Michiganders. Do you actually claim the UP as part of Michigan....cuz there are some wierdos up there. My BIL lives up there and the stories I have heard..wow..if I lived in the lower part of Michigan I might try to give the UP to Wisconsin. Although as a former Wisconsin resident I don't think they would take it....needs more cheese. And how did Michigan get the UP in the first place. The only way it is connected is by a 4 mile long bridge.... Ok....this should get this thread moving along again. Proceed with the posting so I have something new to read at work.
Yeah, this post makes the whole thread get dangerously close to having a real topic of discussion. HOW DARE YOU?!?!?!?!? Smile I went to Michigan Tech (WAAAAAAY up into the UP) and Yoopers are crazy weird wonderfully capable beer drinkers, so they're all friends in my book!

Sorry...I understand this is a thread about nothing but eventually a thread about nothing has to be about something or the thread itself becomes nothing which means it no longer exists. And it's too darn funny to read to have it die.
if my memory serves me...Ohio wanted Toledo soooo badly that they gave Michigan the UP for it...go figure....(okay...so it is not exactly accurate). and you think the yoopers are weird...who would want a garden spot like Toledo?
'this is the thread that never dies.... for what reason, we don't know the why.... to it we are attracted, just like a flies.... maybe someday..it will just die...
(To the tune of "This is the song that never ends") This is the thread that never ends... It goes on and on my friends.... Someone started reading it not knowing what it was...., and they'll continue posting to it forever just because... This is the thread that never ends....

Now look what you did....it's stuck in my head....oh well...might as well share it with the others....hopefully they like my singing here.

See. You ask Michiganders for some thoughtful historical discussion and you get a preschool song instead. Big grin

Tomah..where the I divides....well actually from the cranberry capital, Warrens (nobody knows where Warrens is but everybody has stopped in Tomah for gas, food or the Amish craft place by Burnstads), but I went to HS in Tomah.

Cranberries...YUM! You know, I don't think I have ever been in that area. And I have never been to the Dells...isn't that sad? I've now lived in MI for almost 15 years and have never been to Mackinaw Island. Blush

Yeah I am a big fan of the cranberries (cranberry juice is the best). My dad actually works for the Ocean Spray receiving station in Tomah. We used to get 50 lb bags of cranberries and all the craisins you wanted. But they have put a stop to that cuz a few people started whining. I think the only time I went to the Dells was for a 6th grade field trip. And we only live about an hour away. It's basically just a big urinal for kids to use anyway. It's funny how you kind of take things for granted like that. I never realized how beautiful the LaCrosse/Tomah area is. I really miss it down there and as sad as it is the smell of cow crap reminds me of home....and I actually don't mind getting stuck behind a tractor going down the road at 12 mph. The farm country will always call my name.

And there is NOTHING so heavenly as the smell outside the Miller Brewery going through Milwaukee. OMG. I think it's fitting that my first marathon will be in that cool city. Craisins...they should call them dried crack. I could eat those by the bagful. That reminds me, I need to buy more.

Have you tried the flavored craisins? I don't know what flavors they have out now but my dad used to bring home all the flavors when they first started making them. I think they had a rasberry that was amazing. But I think they only have orange, cherry and maybe strawberry now. So I stick with the original since none of those are tasty in my opinion. I remember having boxes of craisins (at least 20 lbs each) at home. It was amazing. Now my dad feeds craisins to his cows and sheep and they love em. They have waste craisins at the start and end of batches where the sugar might not be enough or too much so he gets to bring it home for his critters. The deer are addicted to them too. It's nothing to see over 100 deer in the field where he spreads the waste berries and craisins. So if you want some craisins I'm sure the deer and sheep wouldn't mind sharing. Big grin

Hah, what's your dad's address...I'd probably eat them unsweetened--I love tart cranberries. Big grin I've tried the flavored ones...not the raspberry, though. The other flavors were kinda meh. I'm going to have to look for the raspberry.

I'm not sure that rasberry made the cut. They had peach, apple, rasberry and I think a couple of others but I think the only ones I see now are the strawberry, orange and cherry. Unfortunately my opinion wasn't important enough to keep the rasberry around. It's funny that something that usually gets thrown away can cost so much. Basically once the berries are juiced they just inject some sugar and flavoring into the wasted hull of the berry and sell it as a craisin. Someone was thinkin'.
