Forums >Running 101>How do i effectively prepare for the next track season?
Background info: I'm a sophomore, I run mid distance (400s and 800s at meets), i started running in 8th grade, ran track in 9th grade and i'm planning to join track again in 10th (I couldn't join cross country yet b/c of transport issues during those seasons). I ran all throughout the summer of 2019 and somewhat during fall but im starting to train hard again.
What should i do to prepare for the next track season?
Are we there, yet?
Ask your coach.
2024 Races:
03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles
05/11 - D3 50K 05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour
06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.
Simplified version:
Run a lot. No need to run fast, just get in 30+ miles a week.
and do what wcrunner2 said.

Agreed.
the 800m is definitely aerobic.
I wish I had more of an aerobic base for hs/college track workouts, I think it would have certainly helped.
I kind of like the run at 180 - Age= target heart rate for most runs.

300m- 37 sec.
Do this.
He/she might recommend a pre season "base" plan. 400/800 benefits from weight training as well. Squats, deadlifts, power cleans and so on are good.
