Rovatti - I think i would love to hear from Alberto lol. I'm spending a lot of money plus I have to take the GF to a few nights in Napa so she can be supportive of all my trips next year. And I can do with Alberto's help next year.
Darkwave I loved those NIN albums too but they weren't my top 5
Cinnamon if you figure it out tell me how can my workouts be 123 bpm 2.3 training effect. Race predictor says I'm in 3:08 shape is that because I train so lazy? Doesn't it see the quality?
Mikkey That's great advice I have to cut out sugar packets. I did go from 10 packs of sugar in the raw to 5-6 packets per cup even did 2 packets a few times. I really have to stop and I'm munching cereal and pretzels.. I'm done I'm buying gum today. Ive been eating nut i cut out soda except one cheat day but I'm trying so hard.
For CIM I been watching this dude and he goes out like a rocket then the guy gets an 800lb gorilla on his back after 35 k and still runs with it. I was thinking about chasing him but I know I would blow up spectacularly. Plus my balls have deflated since starting taper. Two weeks ago I felt invincible today I feel like shit, already gained 3 lbs (153)
CIM he went out died same thing chicago where you can see he goes from 11 mph to 10.1
The last two are Chicago him vs Emma see how she walked him last few kilometers he hit 35 K 61 6econds ahead and he winced it out. So I been stalking him he's a cyclist too. Make you feel like shit when running not his only sport and he can put an ass whopping on you. One day.....
Thinking should be done first, before training begins.
Problem Child
nimmals Check out bib 330. Local fast guy. Overall winner of the San Francisco marathon a few years ago. I want to see how he does this year. Ran a somewhat flat 10K in 33:41 at the end of October. Dude just FLYS.
jmac I have previously used Thanksgiving as the last day I drink. 10 day count down to CIM and every year I've stopped drinking after thanksgiving I've PR'd so I'm keeping with the tradition, but I quit drinking like 6+ months ago to be serious about this whole "SUB 3" thing. I hope the shoulder gets better. I don't have a runners body. #chaffedthighs
dwave your music still surprises me every time I see it. I guess I wouldn't have taken you for a RHCP fan. BSSM is a pretty awesome album. I recall watching the videos on MTV. Now I'm so old I know the kids listening to it now don't remember them dancing around all painted in silver in the desert.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

I looked up his splits from last year. Holy consistency. I need some altitude training. Thats tights and he stayed within the 5 second rule.
I wonder if he is going for the OTQ. 2:24. Close enough to 2:18 for me to say "go for it" and hope he gets it. HE MIGHT have 4% body fat but I'd expect closer to 2%. Dude is lean and mean when he runs.
RIP Milkman
Brew - once you get to that level, it's miles of difference to get 6 minutes.
I thought about you during my run today. I tested out a new pair of VF just to make sure they're good for CIM, but I didn't notice much of a difference between them and the ZF. Granted, I imagine the weight difference can matter a lot over 26 but during the workout they felt exaclty the same as my ZF, which I train in now for workouts.

Mmmm Bop
abba....didn’t they do a lot of disco?
Yes they are disco friendly, but they had cracking tunes and that’s why they are legends. Imo they would’ve been even better as a 5 piece with Slash on guitar to beef up the sound.
Swim - That’s great news about Berlin and I’m sure you’ll love it with all the history attached to it. Good luck at CIM, you’ve put in a huge amount of training over the years and you’re getting much better at racing now. 👍
JMac - Sorry to hear about the shoulder. But my 2:37:33 prediction for you still stands. 😁
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)

Oh I understand how much work it takes and how even three minutes is huge. I just think it would be cool to have a local qualify. Maybe he wants his OTQ and to run the trails like I want to run Boston. I recall learning/reading about how much easier it is to take massive amounts of time off for your second marathon compared to being sub 3 and taking off three or four minutes.
Interesting. Is it because I’m in the zooms come race day, or were you going to note “that time they might be the same”? (Insert Ace Ventura finale is einhorn)
Do you have the zoom flys with the carbon fiber plate? I think the newest zoom flys are as good as the original vaporflys but I’ve never run in vapor flys or the Next% so it’s just a paper comparison. I’d imagine an extra soft landing would help over 26.2 more than your 6.
It looked like you did pretty good. Was that goal pace?
Going for 6:30s today. 15ish minute warm up and maybe some speed towards the end thanks to a suggestion from some 100 miler in Oklahoma who doesn’t come around here often.
If I went 6:25 I could dip under 40 minutes...
edit: I ate 2/3 of a box of double stuffed Oreos last night to prepare. I was thinking of this thread and how delicious Oreos are at the same time.
JTReeves please put me down for sub 2:34. The 2:28 is not in the cards. I tested out my fitness didn’t see the goal attainable plus I’m already up 5lbs freaking hate taper. I plan to go out easy run a negative split so 1:17/1:16 is the new goal. I’ll try for London I’m figuring out what needs to be done. There has always been a hole in my training. I’m going to fix it and see what that brings.
Nimmals - you are an absolute yo-yo right now! One workouts you're ready for 2:2X, the next your confidence is cratering. Either way, I think you should find madison at the start line as I think realistically you both will be shooting for very low 2:3X.
Brew - I'm running in the ZF Flyknit, so yeah they have the carbon fiber. I barely noticed the difference. And no that workout on Wednesday was a goofy Daniels mixed run of 1T + 2M + 1T + 2M. It's a good final sharpening workout, similar to something like 8 @ MP, but he throws in a few faster ones instead to keep the legs sharp.
Mikkey - shoulder is like 95% for running, not really worried. It's going to impact my golf game come the spring though! That's gotta be fixed. Also, I really like your prediction. Part of me wants to just go for sub 6:00 out of the gate, because there's something cool about breaking 6:00 in a marathon. I feel like it's the next big barrier after breaking 3:00. But I've run enough marathons now that I know how to run by feel in the first half, and especially not to run too fast as every other idiot is doing out of the gate like they were at Boston. If that's somewhere around 5:58, so be it.
Me - legs still felt a bit weird during my final tuneup run Wednesday, but they're already feeling better today. I think this taper is going very well for me. Just need to avoid some illness and get a good weather day, and it's go time. I'm so excited to get out there and race!
Jmac I thought you were coming with the VF. Weather is looking okay for race day. Still going BOTT and I’m ready for it to be here. I’m not sure how much more weight gain I can hold off.
JMac - That’s great news about the shoulder and you’ve still got another week to recover. 👍. The RWOL/Strava app guy used to post in the old Sub 3 thread and I’m pretty sure he’s been on this site as well, but I can’t remember his screename!

Nirvana - Nevermind
Queen - Greatest Hits
Bob Marley - Legend
Abba - Gold
Johnny Cash - Greatest hits
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Grateful Dead - Skeletons From The Closet
CSNY - So Far
Stones - Let It Bleed
I'm surprised I survived college with the above. GOOD TIMES. I remember a very interesting 7AM OChem lab ... not sure if these were my top 5 since it was so long ago and I threw away all my tapes when I moved to CA - or maybe they're still in my storage locker in MN (?!) but I know it was a lot of Floyd and Dead bootlegs with significant touches of the last two. Johnny Cash transcends all boundaries!
JMac: yeah no HR here either. Totally unnecessary and unhelpful if you know how you are feeling. Sounds like things are coming around nicely!
MMC: what would your thoughts be re: running in the cold, dark if you couldn't because you were injured?
Nimmals: I would get so annoyed when I would get a good long run and the stupid thing would tell me I'm 'maintaining'. WTF. No improvement in aerobic base?? It's a stupid piece of technology with poor algorithms. I 'trained' for my 1st marathon with a Timex and having measured distance with my car. Yeah I'm old. And grumpy. And re: your CIM - I say let's cut the difference and go with 2:32.
Swim and Nimmals: see you in Berlin!
It's late.
I think 2:33 is a great starting point. Go out in 1:16:30-1:17:00 and then just see how much lower you can take it. Makes for a really fun way to run one of these.
Re weight. I typically only weigh myself up
through the last really big long run. I also don’t think it makes a huge difference for me other then I have found that if I go to low my running definitely suffers.

My mini-taper is all done after my 5 mile shakeout as I'm running the Space Coast (north course) HM tomorrow AM. Only really cut back my mileage in the last 3 days compared to a normal taper so we will see how this goes. Forecast is still calling for about 95-100% humidity (trust me I know how to pick race day weather) as well so the goal will be to run as hard as feasible also trying to gauge who might be the front runners to go for placement. What I loved about my recent 10K PR was that I was able to run in a pack of 2-3 which helped immensely. There are also a few decent sized rollers (a few hundred feet in total) which will be a challenge for these FL legs At the end of the day it will be a good gauge of where I'm at with 5 weeks to go!
