Calling All Hikers (Read 604 times)

dork.major dork.

Hey, So I'm thinking abut doing some longer hikes this summer (with my local AMC). I have a backpacking pack from EMS which does the trick beautifully when what I want is a 45 pound turtle shell for 5+ days in the backcountry, but I'm looking for a day pack that will happily do a 15-20ish mile day in the summer months (so room for maybe one long sleeve shirt and a raincoat. I have a hydration bladder, but not a camelbak per se. Does anyone have a favorite for this type of activity....

I really like my large fanny pack, I feel cooler with something around my waist rather than on my back. The exact model isn't made anymore, but this is similar: http://www.rei.com/product/745643 Arla

I use a Camelback HAWG. Holds the big bladder, and can hold rain-gear, extra shirt, zip-off pant legs, gloves, medical stuff, food, water filter. I use it on our Mt Whitney hikes (22miler roundtrip 8,500ft to 14,500ft) and I carry all that stuff plus a big 211 Steel Reserve beer for the top! Once I even strapped an ice axe to it.
