I'm getting ready to try out Hal Higdon's novice half-marathon training program. Goes for 12 weeks - and it's about 18 weeks before the race I'm looking at. The schedule is at http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm. Is there anyone else out there thinking about training for their first HM? We could set up our own little discussion thread just for talking about our training for the race - the ups, the downs, etc.

I'm planning to do my first half-marathon at the end of Oct., but I can't do his 5 day/week training schedule until my kid is in school, unfortunately--otherwise I would do it with you. When is your first HM? k

Higdon is good. These schedules are a good idea. The main benefit is that they tell you how much to run, and when to run. That sounds obvious, but it is very powerful. The idea is simple, you do what he says, don't run too much and don't run too little. That way you will build your base and your longer runs safely and consistently. The only real downside is that with success comes addiction, and then you will find yourself one morning staring up Grandfather Mountain 27 miles away and waiting for a starting gun... Smile Shocked GOOD LUCK!

I'm looking at the Outer Banks HM Nov 12.http://www.obxmarathon.org/halfmarathon/index.htm Trent - while you were up on Grandfather did you get onto that "mile-high" suspension bridge? The day I was up there (last year) it was super-windy, and... WOW was that scary!

Janell, that looks like a nice event. Here is the one I am planning to do: http://www.grandrapidsmarathon.com/default.aspx I think Eryn is planning to do it, too. k
