Hot Weather Complainer

I ran Christchurch half this year.  Conditions were very good.  Although it got worse soon after so the marathon would have been tough.  All races start the same time.

Agree with Steve re Hagley Park being too early with narrow paths.

Ah, I was in Melbourne so only heard about the bad weather from a mate who did the full.  2017 I was actually there and it was bitterly cold with side ways sleet and hail.  Good times for the last 5km!

I've heard next year is back to the original town hall base, where it was the first time I ever did it.  The same year the race record of 1:02.37 was set!  I wonder if it means they'll change the course to go out around the river first.

        RIP Milkman

For an entire country that has fewer people than just NYC, we are being overwhelmed by them. I do not like this one bit.

Before we know it, our new Kiwi overlords will be forcing us to talk in a funny English accent and drive on the left side of the road.

Had my first DNF in the 10k today. Felt my calf go at 1km in and the dreaded bruised feeling. Tried to ignore it and kept going until 5.5kms but was starting to limp. Was 2nd at that point.

It was cutting it a bit fine as it had only just started to feel good again on thursday.

              RIP Milkman

Piwi - Sorry to hear, that sucks. Very smart call to pull the plug, I'm not sure I would be able to do that in a race, but a limp is a clear sign you need to stop.

JMac - also we will make you use the metric system.

Piwi - that's a real bummer, but smart of you to pull the pin.

Piwi: so sorry to hear that. I hope the walk back was ok and not too painful. At least we know now that you are human, after having healed the last calf strain within 2 days. BUT: Rune finished his marathon despite the calf cramps, Jmac PRed despite stomach cramps - Kiwis are too soft Smile

Marc: you adopted the intelectually unchallenging metric system because the 5 tomatoes rule doesnt work for your dialect. Americans easily know that there are 5280 feet in a mile because five to-mate-oes is easy. Whereas you would probably say something like toh-mah-toes and you would be lost?

MJ: Totally, and we are also not smart enough to remember that 7.4 toadstools equals a wingnut, except on the 3rd Thursday of September.  So we had to make it really simple with everything being in 10's or 100's or 1000's.

Me: Had my 2nd biggest week ever this week.  Legs were feeling pretty good Tuesday which turned out to be good as the coach had a pretty big week planned.  Overall went really well, a bit sluggish on Thursday's workout although it was unseasonably humid, and today's long run went well despite having not run 2 hours since probably July sometime.  Legs were definitely pretty tired over the last 15-20 minutes but until then felt really strong.  Most likely a quieter week this week just to give the legs a bit of recovery (the last 2 weeks have been 2 of my 3 biggest weeks the whole year).

                        RIP Milkman

Mark - you’re really getting your mileage up there (I still don’t know what the noun is for kilometers, but it’s fine, I refuse to submit to our new Kiwi overlords).

Me - Big fat 0 for the week . Still letting the foot heal up, but it’s been stable and not necessarily getting better. May just be something I deal with in the next cycle, we’ll see.

Jmac good to see you are fattening up for xmas  this down time will heal you nicely.

Mick I had a 2 km walk back to my van but walking isnt too bad.

                            Mark you+mileage=dangerous. Nice miles.

No running for me obviously today. Im hoping to try a short jog tuesday and progress from there. If I can get back into pain free running then I will hold off on hills and speedwork for at least 2 weeks to make sure Im healed.

JMac - just saw your Strava data.  You paced very, very well.  It's an excellent result.

Me - uploaded my running data for the first time since September.  Not that it's been much since then.  It's been two weeks since we moved into our new house.  Stress levels have dropped a bit.  Just 21km ran the last week.

Jmac and Piwi - in solidarity I've also ran nothing (10km). Traveling and working got in the way of running. Also nasty winds in Galway, Ireland.

I for one welcome our new Kiwi overlords and their army of sheep.

May their reign be long and may their new law for human-sheep marriage be successful.
